Fugtricia Field

Oh my god, I love Pat Field:

84936910.jpg

WHAT is going on here? And -- more importantly -- what does this mean for the second Sex and the City movie, not to mention the poor fools on Ugly Betty? Have all our dreams been answered and Pat Field is going to do for the turban what she did for giant ass fake flower pins and necklaces that spell out your name in script font? Are we going to see knock-offs of this item at Claire's and Forever XXI, and on the heads of every young girl who works at the Cinnabon? And is it going to be AWESOME, or are all we all going to find ourselves standing in line at Starbucks muttering to each other, "If I see another f'ing hipster in a damn Pat Field turban, I am going to BECOME UNHINGED"? I can't wait to find out.

FUGTON

Oh, SWINTON, you are such a treasure.

84726955.jpg

I don't even really have a beef with this. How can I? It's you! In a velvet coat over velvet pants, with a massive fur hat, wearing heels even though you are eleven-foot-twenty and probably have your own beanstalk somewhere in the South of France!

Actually, at first, I thought the headgear was a crazy-ass bouffant wig the likes of which Amy Winehouse would wear if she got the lead in a Cleopatra biopic. And I admit, now that I know it's NOT, I'm a bit lonely for what -- in the immortal words of Tiffany -- could have been so beautiful. I mean, look, if there is anyone in the world whom I want to see playing Wino-as-Cleo, it's SWINTON. Dear, sweet, wackariffic SWINTON. Long may she reign.

Fug Design

Just when I think to myself, "Self, surely Kelly Wearstler will never be able to top the get-ups she wore last week on Top Design," THIS happens:

Wait! Let's get a look at the close-up!:

Wait! Wait! Wait! Let's look at the wide shot!

mskw 001.jpg

YES. It's an honest-to-God turban! And masses of jewelry! And a square dress made from a pile of leaves! I kept expecting her to grab someone's palm and be like, "I see a trip over water... a mysterious, dark-haired man... a paddle ball tournament... and an incident with Baked Alaska." Sadly, that dream was not realized. Nor was my dream of seeing reaction shots of the rest of the judges from the first time they see Kelly walk out of her dressing room. India Hicks would be silently nonplussed. Jonathan Adler would do that tight, painful smile he does when he's thinking mean things about your design but doesn't want to be cruel and then say something cheerful like, "That turban reminds me of a lamp I once designed!" And Margaret Russell would just smile, nod briefly, and then silently walk away. Come on, Magical Elves. You know this is a good idea. Make my dream a reality. It would be almost as awesome as that turban.

Andre Fugon Talley

There are some looks that are so over the top that you have to kind of embrace the delight that comes with the crazy. Like this:

81364044.jpg

Naomi Campbell is looking at us like, "Yeah, I know. Pink crocodile coat, bejeweled turban and velvet open-toed slippers. I started to say something when he got in the car and then I realized....I don't want to change this."  I wonder if when Naomi called him and told him she was wearing an YSL jumpsuit in memoriam, he decided that nothing goes with harem pants like an awesome turban and threw this together. And while I have to note that when I first saw this picture, I sent an IM to Heather which read, "OMG HAVE YOU SEEN ALT? LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK" and then one which read, "Wait. Was it a theme night?" and then one which read, "HAVE YOU LOOKED YET? LOOK LOOK," I have to salute a man who wears a bejeweled turban with a pink croc coat anywhere. Certainly, it is crazy, but it is the sort of crazy that fills me with delight instead of rage.

Your Fugment of Zen

It's been another long week here at GFY HQ, what with the Oscars, and blogging about the Oscars, and then complaining about how boring the Oscars were... but, at long last, TGIF. Which around these parts stands for Thank George It's Friday.

What better way to end the week than to borrow again, with respect, a gimmick from The Daily Show and sign off for the day with something that brings us inner peace. After a random conversation with a friend about Reba McEntyre songs, it came to my attention that she'd never been exposed to the sheer brilliance that is the video for that old duet, "Does He Love You?" I remember seeing this when the song came out back in the 90s, and it plucked every soapy heartstring I have.

Behold the glories of what Reba is wearing in the very first shot! Of the hat she so boldly wears in extreme close-ups in Act 2! Of the hugeness of her hair in Act Three!  The total generic himbo they're fighting for, and all the associated top-notch acting! And that ending. The ENDING! (Ignore the stupid tag with Rob Reiner; I don't know what that's there for, except perhaps to comfort the world that It Was Acting, and that if you happen to have misplaced Linda Davis since this video, it's not because Reba is an actual Love Terrorist.)

All I know is, if this video ever mated with one of Joan Collins' legendary on-screen catfights, the world would be a better place. Have a lovely weekend.

Fugice Combs

Sometimes I think that if I were at Sundance -- or if I could afford to be more fabulous at February's frigid Fashion Week in New York -- I would go all the way down the road to Campville and get togged up in exactly what Janice Combs is wearing.

Then I tear myself away from the furry splendor of her turban and jacket, and realize Diddy's mother is wearing A JUMPSUIT made of COTTON SPANDEX -- like the unholy spawn of leggings and unitards  -- and that I have become suddenly delirious.
