Fug or Fab/Unfug It Up: Diane Kruger

Okay, Diane. I see where you were going here.

It's a little black dress, very girly, paired with some cute shoes and your favorite accessory: your legs. (Well, second-favorite; we're pretty sure Pacey is her first choice of adornment with any outfit, and that's as it should be. If Intern George ever quits -- PERISH THE THOUGHT -- Pacey just might have a place here with us.)

Ahem. Where was I? Ah, yes, D.Krugs: I just don't know. The twee tutu-ruffle around her hips looked, at first, like her pockets are inside-out, as if she'd been frisked on her way in and not put back together properly. This led my mind on a long and winding path to the movie Clue, whereupon I decided Diane's look here is one part Yvette, one part Mrs. White (please God, not the part where she offs her gentlemen friends), and one part that moment where Wadsworth says, "The gun is missing. Gentlemen, turn out your pockets. Ladies, empty your purses. Whoever's got the gun... IS THE MURDERER."

All that stuff, of course, is awesome. But as a fashion statement? On a day that's NOT  Halloween, nor a local showing of Clue in which a group of players re-enacts it in front of the screen while the audience interacts Rocky Horror-style and shows up in costume (yes, such a thing DOES exist and I've been, and it rules, and I really regret not arriving in a Mrs. White wig)? I'm not sure.

I would keep all the accessories and start over on the dress -- specifically, lopping off the tutu, and adjusting the sweetheart neckline, which doesn't quite look as though it properly fits. Then, maybe some lipstick that's less of a cousin to that whole baby-pink trend. And I'd for sure adjust her hair, because as it is, the greased-back-but-flowy thing just makes her look like she's trying to approximate a mullet. No no, Diane. One cannot go half-hearted with a mullet. You go big or go home.

What would YOU change, if anything? Discuss it in the comments. The usual rules apply: no in-fighting, no back-biting, no arm-wrestling, no using anyone's face as dust rag, etc.

I like the dress, the shoes, the hair. Loose the belt.

Easiest fix: just add Pacey.

I always thought she was a blonded up Diane from Loveline with Dr. Drew. Never mind.

So she's a German actress. Is that why Karl Lagerfeld evidently feels obligated to wrangle her with a ginormous Chanel chain belt? What izzit with that guy? At least she's not covered in layers of pearl necklaces.

Hair's a bit flat, too. That tight skirt has power if it can also deflate the hair...

I don't know. I think that you're spot on with the hair. It needs to be sleek all the way down, or a bit more body by the scalp.
I think the neckline looks funky because of how she's standing causing the lines to get pulled all out of whack, not necessarily because of the dress.
I almost want to add another ruffle at the bottom so it doesn't look like a tutu over the skirt, but then I think early 90's prom dresses and think maybe just doing away with the ruffle is best.

the hair should commit - up or down, not half-way. I'm not sure how to fix the dress, but the shoes are great.

I normally love just about everything she wears...especially Pacey, but this is fugtastic. She needs to start over from the top. ok, the shoes can stay.

Get rid of the tutu part. Make the sweetheart tighter (the angle between the V is too wide, KWIM?) Give her some cute sassy piecy waves a la Randi on SYTYCD. Add Pacey.

And put a smile on that girl's face, for gosh sake! You're dating Pacey - try not to look so long-suffering.

I would give her a colored lip(red or even berry, just something).

I would fix the hair, brush it back or just put it in a chignon.

I would add colored earrings.

I would take the extra ruffle off the dress and add maybe 2 more inches to the dress.

Lose the belt, or lose the ruffle. Both = one flair too many. I thought she was European? Is it only the French who say "Look in the mirror and remove one thing before you go out?" (Unfortunately too many starlets seem to think that means "remove your pants" lately.)

Again, the hair, slick it or flick it, but not half of each. I think the belt and the tutu cut her in the wrong spot making her troso look stumpy. They need to go.
Shoes? ME WANT!

Lose the sweetheart neckline - it's so 8th grade prom. Change the hair and get a thicker belt.

Just add lippy and pull back the hair

I have to say, the dress would look cute on someone cute and tiny, like Amy Adams. But on her, it looks weird. Get rid of the ruffles, make it a bubble dress and keep the shoes. They are fab! Also add some lipstick and put some effort into the hair.

Its all a bit blah, blah, blah...

She needs flames. Flames on the sides of her face.

Kidding!

Lose the ruffle, and either soften the hair or slick it entirely back. The halfway 'do is a don't.

The belt has to go, it has no reason for being there and just looks like she inverted the advice to remove one accessory from the completed outfit.

I don't think this dress is indecently short, but the length-to-width proportion is a bit off, and makes her look blocky, which she isn't.
So, I'd either lose the ruffle and make the dress a bit longer, or reposition the ruffle on what is currently the hem.

Another option that would give the dress a longer look would be to get rid of the ruffle, and add a halter strap.

love the dress, loves the shoes. girlfriend just needs some lipstick and a hair tie.

First and foremost, change the hair. NOW.

Second, get rid of the tutu.

Third, add a splash of Pacey.

This outfit is equal parts boring and stupid. I don't think there's really a way to fix it, if you loose the stupid details (sweet-heart neckline, weird hip fins) then its just a striaght up boring outfit.

I'd say head to toe change everything

She should put on a corset and do the Time Warp.

I think the whole look is little-girlish, which she most definitely is not. I've never cared for that neckline on anything or anyone so - straighten the neckline (or scoop it differently or something), lose the hip ruffles, lengthen the dress about an inch, and lose the belt.

Add Pacey. Wash the hair.

The hip ruffles are really bad; it looks like you could draw Mickey Mouse on her legs and the ruffles are his ears. I DON'T KNOW. It just doesn't work for me.

I must say I don't like this dress on HER. It looked different on the runway, different and better. It makes her look.. well, butchy. Big shoulders, waist... None of which she has in real life. The hair doesn't help either.

I really like the shoes. And actually everything from waist DOWN. Even the ruffle.)

I think this dress could be solved by just moving the ruffle to just below her butt. Then it couldn't be mistaken for the aforementioned pockets but you'd still have a flirty ruffle to snuggle up to Pacey with!

OH MY GOD HER HAIR LOOKS AWFUL. And where's Pacey? He's the best thing about Diane Kruger!

Definitely, lose the ruffle. I think adding some length to it would give it an elegant sheath look. Also, put her hair in an updo, and most importantly, ADD PACEY!!

Fix the hair (or wash it ... or something) first and foremost and then do a little basic math: subtract belt, add Pacey = unfugged up.

I don't know what that red dot is on her left hip. Get rid of that.

Lose the ruffle thing. Looks really odd there. Maybe make the chain/belt bigger. Or more silvery to stand out more. Without the ruffles, the whole thing looks a little plain. Still good, but she is on a red carpet here.

I don't think the black and white checkered shoes really go with the belt. A little more co-ordination there.

And the hair - fix the hair.

She looks ok, need better hair.
But really, I'm after more info on this Rocky Horror-style public showing of Clue idea. How do I search for such a thing... I MUST GO!

This whole look is just fuggery to the Nth degree.

You failed to mention that this dress would go perfect at a costume party themed at "80s Prom" - what with the sweet heart neckline and the chunky belt.

Don't get me wrong, I love 80s Prom-themed Parties - but she didn't even do that look right b/c her hair looks flat and greasy and awful. Complete the look with some Bangs and Hairspray, Girlfriend!

Other than that, those pockets should go away and never come back.

I love Diane Kruger - but this whole look is a big wah-wah for me.

The problem is that she doesn't seem to have any curves.

I think the dust ruffle (or whatever that thing is) is misplaced. It should be higher on her tiny to non-existent hips and perhaps a shade longer to add more drape to it.

Also, lose the belt or replace it with a wider and sleeker belt.

There's simply no hope for the top of the dress though- it just doesn't fit.

I would lose the poofy side things and the sweetheart neckline and pull the hair back in a chignon. I'll let her slide on the pale lips because it looks like she is working a smoky eye and that requires more of a neutral lip. Oh, and and add Pacey. Always. To everything. Or you know, don't, send him to me instead!

I love it all EXCEPT the hair....the hair is BAD...

Dear lord I can work with everything but the hair. Ew.

Hair, hair, hair, hair. What the chuck, farley?

Beautiful girl, legs are awesome....The dress? Meh, but not offensive. Different hair would have gone a long way to help....Loose waves, something more fun. That lipstick has no right to be so boring.

Not really on board with either the neckline or the "turned out pockets" ruffle. With the hair: it's all just a no go.

And where have you gone to a Rocky Horror-esque CLUE night? I am jealous as all get out and with my newly refreshed flaming red hair, want to dress as Miss Scarlet and say things like "I enjoy getting presents from strange men."

The belt plus the ruffle is too much, and I hate the belt, so it goes.
That said, the ruffle with that hair is a little too Dakota Fanning. She needs a funkier haircut (choppy layers?) to be able to pull off such an overly-girly dress.

Love the shoes, though.

Looks like something she might have worn to her 8th grade formal and just found when her parents moved to bigger digs and cleaned out her bedroom closet, making her take all the clothes that she left behind. Obviously, she thought "what the hell, this is cute" and wore it again with no regard to the fact that she has probably grown a wee bit since 8th grade. Love the shoes, though.

Actually, I love it all. She always looks fantastic. Just add Pacey, though. It's kinda like, 'just add water' <-- it goes with everything!

I like the dress! I get it! I do!

I take issue with her hair. She has nothing interesting going on with her head -- so I end up just staring at that weird belt.

Okay, I take issue with the belt too. And the shoes, they just don't go with the dress.

I'd do something INTERESTING with her hair (volume?), lose the belt, and make the shoes red, blue, or bright purple!

She needs earrings. Badly.

And either commit to the sleek look and pull it back into a chignon or get some curls and some volume...that hair isn't doing anything, so it's boring.

This dress would be lovely if it didn't look like her butt had wings.

She could do without the belt. But even if she kept it, just fluff the hair and she's hot!

Love the dress- wish it fit her better. The hair is bad. The makeup is a bit dull - but overall I like the look just wish it had better execution.

The hair really is the terrible thing here. And the lack of Pacey. I mean seriously, if you aren't willing to bring him with you, HAND HIM OVER. I'd bring him to everything, with the added benefit that no one would ever notice what you are wearing, like a dress that doesn't match your boobs.

From another blonde with fine hair - ew. That's the look you want to avoid - greasy on top and dry on the bottom. Pull it back. Or bed-head it up. Day-after-camping-flattened-down-with-my-hands is not chic.

I think...

Turn the thing in to a column dress by getting rid of the old fashioned always ill fitting sweetheart neckline and have it sit flat across her chest with hidden underwiring (pushes the boobies up a bit too which is nice because she has NO definition here other than an uncomfortable looking right boob).

TAKE OUT THE RUFFLE (OMG!!) and lose the belt; balance it out with some bigger, sleeker hair in a soft, side parted Hollywood Siren style.

Add more interesting but still nude makeup with a bolder lip color- maybe a glaze tho rather than a lipstick and more ostentatious bag or chunky bracelet to break up the black. But simple ostentatious, not Coutney Love ostentatious.

I would also normally say the skirt needs to be a little longer but GF has such amazing pins that she can get away with the shorter skirts so I would leave that as is if she's comfortable.

Also, is it just me or does this dress look like a microsuede, velvet or brushed cotton? It looks kinda cheap. A classical fabric would have done it more favors.

The shoes also look a little Minnie Mouse (the dress doesn't help either- it's like Minnie goes to a funeral)and would suit a different outfit if we're going to pare this back and make it classier. I would go with a gray snakeskin Louboutin with hidden platform and no peep toe.

She's a guest at this thing rather than a central character so she can pare it back a little more than someone that needs to big it up on the carpet I think so something subtle but classy with a little dash of luxe would be a great look on her. Throw in pacey in that suit again and... well, they wouldn't leave the hotel!!

I am fairly certain that someone wore this exact outfit to my senior prom ... in 1985.

She could do a lot better by taking it all off and starting from scratch. Except the shoes, which rule.

LOVE the shoes!
I agree with most of the comments....
The hair needs fluffing, up-doing, something. It just looks dirty and makes her look drab.

Buh-bye to the wings and belt, add 2" to the length of the dress and she's good to go.

Oh yeah.... add a dash of Pacey too.

You know, I was thinking this dress was fairly cute, until you mentioned the audience interaction version of Clue.

Now I don't give a damn about the dress - I just want to know WHERE CAN I FIND THIS SHOWING OF CLUE?! Seriously, I will be there as Peacock in two minutes - feathers are on standby.

Lost the belt, change the hair, bright red lippy. Done!

Pacey is the only thing that could fix this. Who cares what anyone is wearing when he's in the picture? Sigh...

The hair = terrible.
The velvet/velour-y fabric = kind of gross for a minidress in July.
Combination of the fabric + sweetheart neckline + twee belt = icky 1980s flashbacks.
Ergo, keep the cut of the dress (incl. ruffle) but update fabric and do SOMETHING with that hair! And find Pacey! QED.

Love it all, except the hair. Put the hair up in a simple high pony and it's perfect!

Ditto what Jen said. She's working this entire look--and I don't say that lightly.

All that's missing is Pacey.

Ok, I know you all think the ruffle should go, but I actually think the ruffle (or, rather, the idea of the ruffle) is what makes it kind of interesting and girly.

I say move the ruffle to the bottom of the dress and get rid of the belt. Also, put the hair up and smile for goodness sake.

as for the dress, i think getting rid of the rufflepockets would improve it immeasurably.

however, what i really came here to say is OMG WHERE CAN I FIND THIS CLUE SHOWING?!?! clue is without a doubt my favorite movie ever and i think that particular scenario sounds like heaven. :D

"Yes, I did it. I killed Yvette. I hated her ... SOOO much, it ... the ... I ... flames. FLAMES on the side of my face, heaving, breathless, heaving breaths. Heaving!!"

(RIP, madeline!)

Don't dis the ruffle too fast, you guys.

It may be a modesty panel, hiding a polterwang, cheek cleavage or any other variety of skin-tastic misdeamenors.

I'd leave the neckline because I feel like that makes the dress. Ruffles should go. As just a plain dress with a cute belt, it's great for what she is going for. The shoes... well they scare me a bit. Honestly, I'd rather go with a colored shoe, since the dress is black. And the hair should either be a slick bun, or something lose and curly. The otherwise lack of jewelry is actually great, because its harder than it seems. I know I have a hard time stepping away from the jewelry drawer.

P.S - I'm glad there were comments on this since I really wanted to comment.

Great legs, yes, but that skirt's too short for that neckline. And don't like the detail (up there, like her butt has wings, funny!)Cute shoes, hair's flat, need red lipstick. Smile!

I like the shoes. Only the shoes. The hair is gross, and the dress is too short, has those weird inside-out pocket things, and that ugly belt, and neckline. About the only thing it has going for it is that it's black and mostly fits her.

She looks fab, like always. I love the unusual silhouette, and the way the belt and shoes add a funky contrast to the sweetness of the dress. If I had to nitpick about something it would be the hair, but I wish I could see it from the sides.

Also, is it just me, but do her eyes seem to have a weird glassy look like she's being taken over by aliens or something?

I'm fine with the hair and everything else. Except the ruffle. It has to go.

Bring the hem down to the knee, tight pencil skirt shape, and put the ruffle at the knee.

Lose the belt.

Fluff the crown of the hair, or just put the whole thing up.

But a big stinkin' sparkly brooch right at the sweetheart.

Hmm... there are so many ways this could be fixed. I suggest sweeping up her hair, making the hem a bit longer, and putting the ruffle either at the waist or at the hem. And give the girl some earrings.

Frankly, just put in on Emma Watson. This is waaaay too young for her. Legs or no.

Hmmm... I don't like the ruffle there, but if you took it off, the dress would be boring, no? I think I might lower it to the bottom of the dress. I'd definitely adjust the neckline, maybe get rid of the whole "sweetheart" thing and just make it straight across (I'm biased; I hate sweetheart necklines on anyone over 16). And I'd change out the belt for a plain black satin or taffeta one. As for the hair... well, I'm a sucker for hats. I think keep her hair down and add a lampshade-brim-style hat with some whimsical detail. Risks being too twee and Audrey-Hepburn-esque, but I think she could pull it off.

I don't mind the ruffle, just make the whole thing a bit LONGER.

Other than the super-duper-mini skirt, there's nothing objectively wrong with any of this. It would look a million times better if she smiled. Or really showed any trace of an emotion. The more I look at this, the more robotic she looks.

I'd change the part where the dress DOESN'T FIT HER AT ALL. It's too short on the top and the bottom. It's like they took a dress for a skinny 9 year old and added a panel at the back to make it fit her around. At least start there, and then address the hair, lipstick, and butt wings.

Somebody else up there said the same thing...like she found her gr. 8 formal dress and said, what the hell.

I was actually at this event last night and saw her in the flesh.. the dress is boring. She's beautiful (and really tiny up close) but her outfit was pretty plain and unexciting.

I'm worried if you removed or replaced the ruffle, the dress would look worse; without, it's just so 'Dallas' and if moved to the bottom of the dress...eech, I know the 80s are in fashion, but that's a prom dress nightmare.

I would rip off the ruffle and make the bottom half of the dress fuller (BUT NO TULLE), but keep it short. D.Krugs would still show off them legs and not worry about stray crumbs landing in her ruffle.

And yes, add Pacey. In fact, let's make that a general rule: always add Pacey.

Point 1: The dress is boring and unfinished. It looks like a Barbie cocktail dress as worn by Goth Barbie.

Point 2: I may or may not like the shoes. I'd like to see them from the side to reach my final decision.

Point 3: THERE ARE THEATERS THAT SHOW CLUE AND THE AUDIENCE DRESSES UP!??!?! I love that movie so much so that is like the best thing I have heard all week. What are the odds I can find one in Ohio?

I usually prefer Diane's interpretation of the latest runway styles but this time it's the other way 'round, I think.

This dress looked much better as shown in the collection with a wider belt and more "swing" in the ruffle hem. Not for me, personally, but it was a better look in general.

Don't like the way it's fitting her at the top either.

And the hair does look too much like a greasy root-dry ends beauty issue that needs to be addressed with the right pH balanced shampoo and conditioner.

So these would be some of my more specific concerns...but in general I'd agree it's just the lack of Pacey.

Who's Pacey?

I am too old for this place.

Bung on a nice chunky necklace, fix the hair. Belt is meh...The rest is fine!

People who know way better that me call it a "sweetheart" neckline, good to know. I'd call it a bust-line, but: it's just not aesthetically pleasing.
Can't put my finger on why, it's trying to be demure yet slightly racy, yet it's neither. A kind of wimpy curve, visually.

I'd make the top STRAIGHT, I hate the little half-moons holding the chest in. It's too prom-dressy. Also, remove the ruffles. Voila, a grown up dress.

I'd just eliminate the tutu thing. And maybe give her some new shoes. Her pinky toe is about to fall out.

If Pacey were standing beside her wearing one of those awesome ascots that, seemingly, only he can pull off, DK could be dressed like Helena Bonham Carter at her wackiest and I'd never notice.

Personally I'd scrap the dress, and her, and leave it on my floor...with Pacey.

IT'S FABULOUS YOU FOOLS!!! She can do no wrong!

Hate the hair, dress is cute though. Poor thing, her shoes must be killing her.

So I didn't read through all 80 previous, but did anyone notice that because of the ruffle her clutch is in confinement? Her left arm has to stay forever straight or there will be a problem.

The only problem with this look is the very TOP and the very BOTTOM of it. The hair is awful. I really don't care what she does with it as long as it isn't slicked flat to her head like THAT. The shoes need to be solid black or metallic to match the belt. Those polka dots are just wrong. A little color in her lips wouldn't hurt, but I'm not gonna nitpick.

Big bright belt, wave the hair, slightly stronger lip, donnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Clue is the best movie ever. Mostly I'm commenting to thank you for talking about it with such love.

Just to legitimize this post, though: Fluff the hair up a bit, invert and move the ruffle to the neckline (sure it's tres 80's, but what isn't about this already?) and make it straight across instead of sweetheart, change the shoes to a color, add Pacey.

in 5 moves or less: kill the belt, kill the ruffle, add a necklace, fix the hair. done!

Without even messing with her hair and dress, I can make a suggestion that would make me having to look at her far more tolerable: A SMILE. Not that hard! She's got a killer body and she's dating Pacey! Why does she always look so dour and serious on the carpet?

Once she learns how to exercise her cheek muscles in that positive manner, I'd take those flappy pocket thingies off her dress, hand her some lip gloss, and pull her hair back in a ponytail. All done.

Well, the frilly pocket outer thigh wing things would be balanced out if her hair was bigger and more interesting. I know she is a lady, so she might not like really big hair (she may not like looking drag-esque), but it would create some symmetry with that really big dress. Also, the belt could be more interesting or else could just not be there.

That is all.
P.S. I agree regarding the above post, Clue is the best movie ever.

Really, honestly, I just cry for her hair. Who let her leave the house with it like that? She looks like she's in 7th grade and she is NOT one of the cool kids. It even makes her otherwise pretty face look worse. Shampoo, condition, brush, blowdry, style. Simple steps that most of us manage to follow on a daily basis. And without a celebrity hairstylist to aid us.

Is that dress made of velvet?!?

Have some sympathy for the boobs, switch the belt to something less chain-y and I think we'd have a winner.

Adding some Pacey to the mix wouldn't be so bad either.

this manages to make the leggy blond look stumpy in the torso O.O
she could do so much better
nix the frill, lengthen skirt
if she wants a heart neckline, it could be done so much better..maybe pleated/folded

I am so happy to see that there are other Clue lovers out there. If we can convince Heather to tell us how to find this special showing, we should do a GFY field trip!

As for Diane - better hair and Pacey.

i like it all - only thing i'd change is the hair.
i like that her belt and shoes are slightly off.

Daniel Craig in drag.

I rather like the slicked back hair and it looks great on her. But I agree with the posters who said to get rid of the 1980's Forever 21 prom dress ruffle. Gah! If that is gone, then 95% perfect (the other 5% is Pacey).
Saff

I like it all. But with a red lip. And she needs to commit to the slicked-back hair — pin it, ponytail, anything but the way it is.

I can't comment on the outfit because I'm totally sidetracked imagining the awesomeness of this:
a local showing of Clue in which a group of players re-enacts it in front of the screen while the audience interacts Rocky Horror-style and shows up in costume (yes, such a thing DOES exist and I've been, and it rules, and I really regret not arriving in a Mrs. White wig)

I had no idea there was such a thing. I need to find out more about this....

Belt...GONE
Shoes...GONE
Actually, I sort of don't hate the ruffles. She's skinny and can afford to appear just slightly wider...no?
She must have just been with Pacey. The evidence is in her hair. And I actually LIKE her makeup. The cheeks are sort of ashy and dull but I think the pale lip is amazing.

I LOVE Diane! I absolutely adore everything she wears. Plus, she is incredibly beautiful! I would like this dress more if it was a bit longer, though.

If I were wearing the dress (which is physically impossible) I would want to take the ruffle off. I don't like girly. But, this is D.K. and if there was no ruffle I would think, "Oh, look. Diane Kruger looks boring. What happend to her fashion-forward stylist?" So, I think I'd lose the dress altogether. It's not an ugly dress, but it's not Diane Kruger-worthy.
If the dress must stay I would add a jacket or outrageous shoes. Something to bring this outfit upto her speed.

she looks amazing! if only i could be that skinny...

she looks amazing! if only i could be that skinny...

Get rid of the hideous ruffle. (Unless DK can't swim and is in a crash landing situation.) Next, add several inches to the hemline to make DK's dress closer to age appropriate. Give her a slightly rosier, more natural lip color, or perhaps a steak. Is she iron deficient or is that too-pale tone just supposed to be bland enough not to detract from her smoky, drama-tastic eyes? Ditch the bland bracelets. I barely even noticed them. Get rid of the half-up do. I vote for a warmer honey glaze on her hair, and then letting those tresses down to avoid looking like a Robert Palmer video girl. Finally -- this is fashion police brutality, deal with it -- hand over the shoes & clutch to me. They're mine! I want em!

Nope, she's perfect.
Full disclosure: I love her. The only movie I've ever seen her in is L'age de Tenabres (and she might have been one of the only bearable parts of that horrific film that actually made me embarrassed for having brought a friend along). However, she's trilingual, literally, not just she speaks other languages, she's fluent in three of them. How many of us can accomplish that and even semi-act at the same time?
That said... I do thing she looks great, maybe even ignoring my admiration.
The one improvement/problem- if she had a bigger chest, it might seem more hourglassy and we wouldn't even notice the ruffles. But even tat I can turn into a pro- props to her for being natural.

I think I would get rid of the tutu and make it more form fitting and longer on the bottom, and change the bust because the cups look too small for her, or something, idk, its just weird.

http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com rules

Fix the dress, upgrade the lipstick and we're all set. Having said that, though, I don't get the DK appeal. She's pretty in a very boring way. And it is BEYOND me why she was ever picked to play freakin' HELEN OF TROY. Would you go to war over this chick? I think not. HofT does not have thin, villainous lips. The role should've gone to Laeticia Casta, even if she had nary a word of dialogue.

I'm going to give this a half fug only because she doesn't have darling P. Witter on her arm. Who can leave that at home? It's like walking out the door without lipstick.

I just don't get her. She's so plain and just blends in. She usually wears the oddest things. But her shoes are 99% of the time, awesome. I agree with the above that this is too young a dress for her. Emma Watson would have rocked it and I probably wouldn't have minded the belt on her as much. She just doesn't sit right with me and I can't put my finger exactly on why that is. Maybe it's because I'm trying to figure out why anyone cares about her. (Besides the Pacey factor.) LOL!

Lose the bustier, belt and ruffle, and give me more skirt length and a flattering color.
Black drowns her lovely complexion.

Seriously?! First Alber Elbaz and now Christophe Decarnin. Will you please desist fugging such amazing dresses! I love Balmain. I love her. And I love this dress.

Girlfriend needs lipstick, a curling iron, and some scissors to cut off her flipper-flapper thingies by her hips.

She looks amazing. If the dress had no ruffle detail, it would be so boring... and yet that's what a lot of people on here are advocating she do. Diane loves avant garde, expensive & bold pieces, and i think she pulls it off flawlessly.

If you like plain (read DULL) clothing, then wear them, but please don't expect everyone else to want to blend in with you.

It's all quite simple:
1. Rip the little ruffles off.
2. Give her a fun little belt.

It's all quite simple:

Besides the hair, which may have looked nicer in the morning before she left the house,I think she looks completely adorable. There's nothing wrong with her face, people, and the dress is an interesting cross between art-deco and the classic black dress.few people could pull it off because it demands an extremely svelt body, and I salute her.

make the hair bigger, lose the belt, then move the ruffle up about an inch.

Clue live! oh my god, yes...

lose everything. it is AWFUL. fix the hair, brighter makeup, a dress with a better neckline that is long enough to make it look like she's not wearing toddler's clothes... the shoes seem good. but you can't see them very well. i think i could deal with everything if she just didn't look so pinched and thin! smile! and get some hair volumizer!

note: i can't email this website, so please tell me you have seen Lady Gaga's kermit getup and simply didn't want to remember and so never brought it up again? if not, just google it. please. i need a commiserator.

I love it all! She looks stunning.

I'm not sure it's that she has no curves.
But that dress sure makes her look like she doesn't.
Whoever is responsible for that hair, should be made to wear their hair just like that, every day for a year.
Yee Gods.
Fortunately, this is just a blip on the radar screen.
DK is usually decked out a lot better.

Actually I ADORE the whole thing, absolutely adorable!

She should have dressed like Róisín Murphy in this old Moloko video instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtZAzh0TSAo

It's the attack of the Rufffffles!!

The shoes suck too..like I get where she was going - but she just didn't get there.

Hate the dress, love the Loubous!

Put her hair in a sleek up-do. Face needs a little less eye and a little more cheek color. Forget the chain belt, too harsh. Put four inches on the dress, lose the fuffles, and by all means replace those polkda-dot shoes with something skinnier in a muted gold, to match a muted gold skinny belt. Very muted.

From the waist down, She's rocking it. The legs are great, and the volume around her hips/thighs is positioned perfectly so as not to make her look less slender. Is that a chain around her waist? Could do worse. The bodice does not flatter her though. It looks a little small, a little precarious, and it gives her just a bit of unfortunate spillage on the sides. It also makes her shoulders look a little wide and heavy. She could have saved this whole look with softer hair. She's a beautiful girl and that slick-back is probably the #1 reason why she has invited all of this criticism.

I think it´s cute. If I were as thin as she is, I´d wear it too.

More importantly... where is this magical Clue re-enactment taking place?!?! I have seen this movie a million times, and as kids we made our own Clue sequels. Seeing Clue live in a theater is my idea of the perfect vacation activity.

I actually like the tutu skirt. Not crazy about the neckline and would change that to ... something? And not the polka-dotted shoes, either. Fierce, but not the cankle shoes everyone loves nowadays.

Great legs, cute (ish) shoes ... the dress isn't *bad* but the sweetheart neckline needs to GO as does that chain belt. Really? Also, hair = boring. You have a team of stylists at the ready, give it some effort.

Love the dress, but it needs to be an inch and a half longer, lose the belt, get a better blowout and some killer tights...with even more killer heels. It has a good 80s cocktail feel to the look.

Clue LIVE??? Please, please, please let that come to my area! *drools a bit* I'd dress like Miss Scarlet. I've got a red bridesmaid dress I'd be willing to hack to tea length for that.

1) Make the bodice fit.

2) Add a second ruffle to the bottom of the hemline. (I'm pretty sure that this plus step one would fix the previously mentioned kinda-off height/width ratio)

3) Pull the hair back (ponytail or up, either way--maybe a ponytail hanging over the shoulder like SJP in the ep of SatC where she rode on her bf's motorcycle?).

4) Very, VERY slightly brighter lipstick. An icy berry. I actually like the rest of the makeup.

And again--PLEASE open comments on all entries!!

You crazy on this one. She looks amazing. A classic dress, with a few 'twists' that make it feel young and modern.

Your writing is wonderfully biting and witty. But I'm saddened that what you like in fashion, at the end of the day, boils down to Doris Day's wardrobe circa 1966: all ladylike tedium out of sync with its era.

she looks great but i also think the chuck-bass-lost-his-hairdressers-phone-number do must go...and pacey should come here to me :>

She is gorgeous, but the hair is FUG and the dress is FUG. I'm with the GFY girls, keep the accessories, start over on the dress.
1. I agree with some other commenter's, the dress looks like suede, there is some kinda nap to the fabric. Just say no to fugly dresses!
2. Brighter lip.
3. Sleek hair into a chignon or volume all over, pick one.
4. Her right pinkie toe looks like it is being smooshed right out of those too cool shoes, she should send them directly to me, she should be smiling again shortly.
3. Pacey, send him along with the shoes. Sigh.

I think Diane Kruger can wear anything she wants and look amazing. Lucky biatch!

Dress: lose the belt, make the bottom completely ruffly, but to the same length

Make up: putting some on her. maybe a soft pink lip and a darker coloed eyeshadow, like a light application of purple

hair: extensions, styled like Heigl's 'ugly truth' hair when she's wearing the black dress in the previews.

accessories: dangle earrings, silver shoes, cute boyfriend

easy fixes overall

Her dress is great, the shoes are great, naturally the outfit would benefit from a little Pacey on the side, what ensemble wouldn’t? But her hair? I see what she was going for, but I’m thinking a little shampoo, rinse and repeat would work wonders.

I love the outfit. Yes, the skirt is a little "tutu" but it's different and I like it. Atleast it isn't a boring, plain black dress. I like the belt for accent too. I think she always looks great!

Hair: Needs something, now it looks like "single mum going to buy groceries after work". Curls, bun, extensions... anything but this!

Dress: Throw it away and start with another. If you take the ruffle off it's just another little black dress.

Belt: lose it!

Shoes are a yes, and so is the clutch. Eye makeup should be stronger or she should have some lippy. More accessories, either nice showy earrings or a necklace.

All in all, in this photo she looks like "omg why did I wear these clothes today"

I would only change the hair. I don't LOVE love the dress, but it's Diane Kruger; it works. The hair, however, reminds me of Natalie Portman, and that does not work. More volume, possibly with a low ponytail.

Still, she is utterly fab. LOVE Diane Kruger.

Use the ruffle to wrap tightly around her neck, like the rope in Clue.

And I've seen productions of Clue done Rocky Horror style...I might have seen the first incarnations of it on the East Coast in the 90s. Full. On. Awesome. Mrs. White FTW!

i also like the dress and think it might be better beltless.. but more importantly, i've been one seventh a clue-group on halloween as mrs. peacock. feathers in hair and everything. highly recommended, too much fun :)

Add touch of body to hair, brighter lipstick = sophisticated hair metal groupie.

This is awful! It doesn't even look like she washed her hair . . just tucked it behind her ears! The dress looks like a chocolate cupcake that I'm sure my daughter ate at a birthday party a few weeks ago. The shoes might work with a longer black dress, but not this one. Also, a little jewelry above her wrists wouldn't hurt! :)

Every time I see a picture of Diane Kruger I keep waiting for someone to explain why she is so popular. I don't really see her in anything ever. Not that she isn't beautiful. I get that she is trying to downplay the frilly dress with nondesript hair, but I would definitely do a little more with the style. Perhaps not tucked behind the ears? Although I know how that can be; my own hair is often tucked behind my ears, waiting for my semiannual blow out when I can proudly wear it in my face. Also, I think she needs a little lippy. Other than that I think the dress is very cute on her. I'm going to cut out the picture from her legs down and put it on my fridge. Maybe that will inspire me to stick with my workouts. Her shoes are so narrow that they make her probably small feet look very wide. She is getting to be like J. Anniston, always wearing black, or the opposite, white, neither of which do much for her coloring. Rock those colors pale girls! Also, where's Pacey?

Wash the hair & put in a bun. Rip off those hideous ruffles, unless she's trying to look like she has saddlebags. Change the neckline so it doesn't have that stupid boob separator dip in the middle, maybe straight across instead. Lengthen the skirt to the knees, lose the belt, wear black heels (or just take a sharpie to the white spots on the current shoes). Add some giant, long, silver, sparkly earrings, carry a big purple clutch, put on dark lipstick, and SMILE, for the love of fashion gods.

Forget D. Krugs, I'm so happy someone else shares my insane love of Clue!

"I'm the butler."
"And what is it you do?"
"I buttle sir."

CLASSIC!

Yeah yeah Diane whatev. Where can I find this Clue Screening!?!? I'm Googleing the heck out of it.

I think those ruffles gotta go. Because I had to inch way up to my comupter screen (WITH MY GLASSES)to realize they were ruffles and not ironic pockets.

And yes, Pacey is the next eligible candidate if (heaven forbid) Intern George were to leave, because lawd knows -- as Joshua Jackson gets older -- he is fast becoming the second coming of George Clooney. He just gets even better with age, and he's always been yummy. *swoons*

The hair needs to be all-the-way slicked or in soft curls. Darker lipstick, get rid of the ruffle, and make the skirt a bit shorter.

I like the ruffle and I think if she had more interesting off her shoulders hair it would work. I'd fix the neckline so it fits and put her hair up.

The BELT! Seriously, belts and dresses are iffy, at best. The belt is the most WRONG thing in this picture.

Definitely lose the belt. MAYBE the ruffles too? I think the hair is kinda blah, although at least it's smooth and shiny - she didn't pull a Cameron Diaz or anything. If she didn't have it tucked behind her ears, I probably wouldn't have mentioned it.

Also love your Clue references. Tim Curry rules!

PS, Did you know they are developing a remake? I am excited and scared at the same time! Could be wonderful, could be horrifying...

this dress makes me worried.

All I can say is that you are my hero for all the Clue references. LOVE that movie!!!
