Unfug It Up: Rumer Willis

I love how it looks like the girls in the poster are shrieking at Rumer and Demi.

Not that shrieking is necessarily warranted here. Demi looks lovely and dignified. But Rumer... she's getting there, she really is. The jacket is intricate and interesting. But it's also a tad mature: I could it on anyone ranging from Cate Blanchett to Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren to freaking Barbara Walters in that thing. Okay, maybe not Baba Wawa, unless she put a camisole under it, but you get the gist -- don't clothe yourself into your golden years, Rumer.

I'd almost like to see them trade outfits. Maybe we'd find out that it takes a very particular face and body to pull off an explosion of ruffles, but it also might be fun to see Rumer in a dress that's not strapless, since she has a pathological inability to choose one that wants to stay above her ribcage.  As for Demi, she could totally work the lace, and would probably do better than pairing it with a truly unremarkable pair of black pants. They definitely don't compete with the top, it's true, but they don't enhance it either. In fact, they're kind of rolling over and playing dead. I'm glad Rumer herself is not -- if Demi Moore were my mother, I might consider giving up completely and becoming a shut-in who never shaves and eats only what can be foraged from the attic -- but I do wish she'd done something else here.

How would you fix this? Swap their clothes? Keep them in their outfits, but lose the pants (and replace them with something else)? Give them more exciting shoes? Or are they perfect just the way they left the house? Fair readers, let us know. You know the rules: On topic, on manners, on Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen. Merci.

Yeah, I'd consider swapping, because Rumer has the right body type for the ruffly ...thing, which i still think is too ruffly. And I've worn quite a few ruffles in my time. So I'd tone that down. and maybe not black for ONCE. jeez.
I actually think Rumer looks really good, compared to what we usually see her wear. very sophisticated, for once.

Simple black skirt.

I'm not loving the pants. They veer a bit too closely into leggings territory for my taste. The lace could have made a very pretty slipdress, maybe cut just above the knee to be demure and still very fetching...or even a solid color skirt, in a merlot color, perhaps? I also agree that there are too many ruffles on Demi's dress.

I'd hate to put those pants on Demi -- the crotch is terrible and it might trigger a relapse into that phase where she designed her own clothes.

I just wish that Rumer would say "hey Mom, can I borrow your stylist for a night?"

Take out the shoulderpads and do something better with the hair.

...Although, to add to my earlier comment, I think we should all consider how hard we'd find sartorial choices if *we* looked like Young Bruce Willis In Drag.

I guess I have so little faith in Rumer Willis that Demi's dress bothers me *more*. I couldn't tell immediately that it had ruffles; it just looked wrinkled and dumpy.

I actually love Rumer's jacket. Just add a camisole underneath. I tire of her sternum. In fact, sternums in general should be kept to their owners.

Swapping out the outfits isn't a bad idea, but I don't care for the pants with that jacket/top. I do love the jacket/top though. I think it would look good with a pencil skirt and more interesting, eye-catching shoes. Maybe a more youthful hairstyle? Actually, if the top were a fitted dress that stopped a few inches above the knee, it would be fabulous. Again with totally bitchin' shoes.

I also think they should switch. Demi could wear the jacket with a lighter colored skirt and Rumer could totall pull that dress off in a sort of light pink or cream color.

blaaaaaaaaaaaaaa too much black! Give Rumer a fun shoe. It still wouldn't fix the outfit but at least it would distract us. Maybe red? Like I said, TOO MUCH BLACK!

I would have Rumer wear some jeans with that top. I saw her recently in House Bunny and she is much prettier than she photographs.

It's difficult to unfug that face. How did poor Rumor get the ass-end of Bruce and Demi's gorgeous genes?

I'd change one of the piece's in Rumer's outfit to something with some COLOUR. PLEASE.

Demi, however, looks awesome as usual.

Demi looks pretty good. As for Rumer, I'd get rid of the jagged edges of the neckline and bring it up a bit (honey, nice sternum, but I don't need to see it). And since it isn't fall/winter yet, I'd make it sleeveless and a perhaps more eye-catching color.

Heather if we "lose the pants", Rumer is going to look like a Ga-Ga wannabe. I agree, a short black skirt would look much better than those weird crotch pants. I can't hang with Demi's dress at all. It looks like a French Maid's outfit gone bad.

Let's try and stick to the clothes, y'all. Rumer's face is her face but her clothes have infinite possibilities.

I feel like I FINALLY like her hair.

I saw this shot on another site this morning and mentally applauded Rumer for at least puttin' on the good spackle and not making a weird face. I love the neckline of her jacket, but she is young and can get away with a little more skin; rip off the sleeves and either leave it sleeveless or maybe a cap sleeve? Swap out those absurd pants for a fitted pencil skirt and add a blingy clutch.

Emmy---Rumer and Demi actually share the same stylist...and it is Rachel Zoe...make of that what you will.

I think this lace thing could be cute, but as a mini dress...but maybe that is my weakness for lace talking?

i don't care for demi's dress but whatever. i would put rumer in a skirt with that top. the top is a little old, but maybe it's appropriate for the event.

i think we should keep rumer's face out of the unfugging though. she's who she is. and lovely.

I'm just sitting here, gaping that Demi put a belt over top of the ruffles. Honestly, I hate both outfits and would start all over again - with COLOR.

I do not like those pants. They're like trousers that secretly want to be leggings, so they're crowding at the crotch and ankles. Switch it for something shorter, more colorful, more swishy, and then put it on Demi.

Gah. Demi's dress is what needs to be un-fugged! It looks like a failed interprtation of a tuxedo shirt as a dress.

And, yes, they both could use far more interesting shoes.

Rumor -- I don't like puffed shoulders, but I don't know that removing them would help on this particular jacket -- I can't think of any sleeve-length I'd like it in. Although ... make it a sleeveless dress and it'd be super pretty!

From where I sit, both these outfits almost make it.

The dress needs to have all the ruffles and flourishes excised, and one (maybe even two, because a good classic LBD could get away with two) pieces of good jewelry substituted.

The jacket could really benefit from a less plunging neckline -- even though it's only a couple inches wide. But if the lady is determined to go with the "Hey, fellas, if I move the right (or wrong) way you could see my nipples" look, then all I would insist on is trimming down whatever those things are on the shoulders. If they are leg-o'-mutton sleeves, this isn't 1890. If they're the Giant Shoulder Pads That Sat Down on Tokyo, this isn't 1930. It isn't even 1942.

I love that jacket! I think I'd un-oldify it on Rumer by making her wear skinny leather pants (rock and roll!). And some hot shoes like these Miu Miu "cage platforms" (http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod86230007&parentId=cat13030764&masterId=cat13030734&index=0&cmCat=cat000000cat000141cat13030734cat13030764).

But then I'd have to fast-forward to at least November, because leather pants in heat are just stupid.

So yeah: leave the jacket, leave the sternum (give her a break, she's young and pretty and wants to show some flesh), but switch up the pants for a little rock and roll leather.

Pencil skirt= more oldifying, if you ask me. Nobody did, but here we are.

I actually like Demi's dress, but I would make Rumer's top sleeveless, put her in a pencil skirt, and give her bright red pumps. Rumer's got great legs--she should show them off.

Actually, I love Rumer's outfit--the simple pants and the intricate top work really well together, in my opinion.

A skirt might help Rumer here, or a sash with some or perhaps a belt with some subtle little embellishment maybe, or hey, maybe a RED SHOE. I don't know, the puffs at the shoulder are KILLING this look for me I'm sort of blind to any awesome it might contain.

Of course I'm not really loving Demi's get-up either. Could be all the black. And while I like the ruffles up top the continuation of it below her waist sort of ruins it, makes it feel a little like a ruffle apron.

Demi's dress looks her age, for once. But she has better legs than that, so I'd make it shorter by a good 3".

I'd give Rumer's jacket to Dame Judy Dench, who would wear it with a lovely black skirt, & then I'd dress Rumer in something else entirely.

They both look great. Black is Never Wrong.

If I HAD to change anything it would be the belt on Ms. Moore, which I could maybe wish was more matte.

I really think Rumer is beautiful.... I'd love to have the face structure to pull off that cut.

I'd make the selves less puffy, and shorten the sleeve length to a 2 quarter. Also, different bottoms - oh! Dark red pencil skirt...in leather. Did I just take it too far?

Demi's outfit... I can't fix that. It's just all wrong.

Rumer: Stand up straight, no knock-knees, no pigeon toes. Take off those pants, and put on something that fits. Maybe a slender, silver skirt?

Demi: Take that thing OFF. Nothing good about it, and the combo of the length and the shoes is giving you the impression of cankles.

I think they both look rather nice. I agree the top is a tad mature for Rumer, but she seems to be pulling it off. Here's to moms and daughters appearing to enjoy each other's company!

Take out the puffy sleeves, pair it with a pencil skirt and an open toed heel.

Demi's outfit really bothers me. What's with the belt? And the giant boob rose? Remove both and get it tailore properly. Pair with a patent stiletto and purse.

Replace Rumer's polterwang pants with a pencil skirt, and send her to posture school.

I do not, do not, repeat, do not like Demi's look here. The overall shape is good on her, but those ruffles are insanely fugly. Blah.

I'm like the jacket on Rumer. I think it's got enough forward-thinking details to keep it from slipping into matronly category. She's tried enough "young" styles for us to see that they generally aren't designed for girls with shoulders or height. This jacket suits her body well. That said, I think it would be far better with a skirt and kick@ss heels, one or the other of which ought to be a bright bolt of color.

At first I thought of swapping the outfits entirely too, but then decided Rumor's outfit was too matronly even for Demi. So let's work with what they wanted to wear.

I'd lower the neckline on Demi's dress and maybe tone down the ruffles just a tad. You're right that she is blessed with the body and face to pull off such a dramatic dress- but even still, the dress is dangerously close to a full-length funeral tuxedo top complete with corsage.

Rumor's top should lose it's sleeves entirely and turn it into a cute/sexy top. The pants and shoes have got to go entirely though! Pur a simple slim fitting black knee-length skirt to show off her legs a little, while keeping it sleek and sophisticated. And some hot -toe shoes would complete the look!

Rumer needs to lose the pants, try a shorter-ish skirt. The shoes need to go too, something young and kicky would be better, kitten heel maybe.
She actually looks pretty good here, which sad to say isn't the norm for her.

Demi - meh. I'm not loving the ruffle on the dress.... actually I'm not loving the dress at all. Do over!

geez, Rumer looks old enough to be her mom's friend, not her daughter. She needs a better haircut, first. Second lose the puffs on the sleeves and swap out the black pants - maybe for something white if she doesn't like colors? The ruffles on Demi's dress make her look saggy and top heavy, so I'd ditch them too.

I get to be that person today: I was just looking at this set of pictures elsewhere, and I think Rumer looks so much better than usual here that I'm willing to give her a pass. Maybe she spent her whole childhood in jeans and she feels naked without trousers, or something, but she's so much more relaxed, standing in an easy and graceful posture, and if looking like she's raided Helen Mirren's closet is what it takes, I'm utterly up with it. Even her mouth and nose look more in proportion with the rest of her face, instead of being isolated in a desert of chin and cheek.

Demi is Demi; she looks as she looks, and wanting her to look better is just not fair to the rest of the middle-aged women on the planet.

(HEY, what happened to the ital tag? I feel as if someone has tied half my brain behind my back with no italics!)

Demi's dress seems too big, the belt is wrong and the ruffles look bunched up a bit.

I agree that Rummer's jacket is too old, but , like the others have said, remove the poofy shoulders, shorten the sleeves, maybe a short skirt, and flashy shoes, who knows? Her skin looks great . . .

They can both keep their outfits but I'd rip off the sleeves of that lace jacket, possibly turn it into a halter neck and pair it with a fitted black pencil skirt. Voila!

Rumer looks good ... for Rumer. Maybe if she closed her mouth and slapped on some lipstick she would look less like Bruce Willis. Demi actually looks like she has cankles in this picture -- not sure if it's the angle or the shoes paired with the unflattering hem line.

Almost there...

I'd love to see Demi with a more colorful bag and Rumor with some red shoes.

I hate Demi's dress a lot, and wouldn't wish it on anyone, let alone Rumer, who would, if her past is any guide, look very slumpy in it.

Rumer's blouse/jacket (blacket?) isn't really great on her, but I like kpod's idea of a slim silver skirt, if anything.

I think Demi looks great, as always. Rumor's pants are the problem for me. They look too long and not dressy enough to be paired with that jacket. I think the jacket is nice. Maybe she just needs to have the pants in a dressier material and add heels that look more like her mom's. I think the look is actually ok for her.

I actually love the jacket! It's unusual and she is carrying it off. I see what you're saying about the possible 'mature' look but actually I think she is young enough to get away with a style which on someone ten years older might look totally wrong. Also love her hair. I think I would have worn smart black bootcut trousers though as opposed to skinny jeans-type things.

Demi on the other hand looks really uncomfortable and out-of-proportion in the chest area - must be the giant ruffle, or maybe the dress just doesn't fit well? It's not doing her arms any favours either. She's so gorgeous, she can look much better than this.

I think Rumor should go to college. As it is, she thinks kid of flashing her breasts pays off.Well, her mother did it.

As far as the dress, get awy from black.I think she would do well in unusual colors. Canary yellow perhaps?

Is it weird that I could see both Kelly Osbourne AND Diane Kruger in Rumer's top? Which should be a cocktail dress? With 3/4 length sleeve? And if that dress was real, I would purchase it post-haste?

Demi should raise her hemline just a touch, put the ruffles down the back, and throw that belt in the nearest drainage ditch.

Keep them in the same outfits give Rumor a sparkly A line skirt and pumps while giving Demi strapy sandals

Maybe axe the horrifying jeans and add a patent leather mini? Gold belt instead of black? Better earrings? hooker sandals?

Demi looks just fine.

I LOVE Rumar's top, and I think she looks great. Better pants is all she needs, although some really hot shoes would not be amiss.

Demi looks fine. Nothing awesome there, and nothing terrible either.

I think she would look fine if she simply stood up straight and stopped with the pigeon-toedness. WHY do "starlets" stand like that?? It is so unattractive.

I agree with the others, if Rummer just put on skirt it would be so much better. Either a pencil skirt or even a little leather mini-skirt which would let her show some leg, thus adding youth to the outfit and rock the whole leather and lace deal people are always singing about.

Red shoes.

I think a pencil skirt, a colored belt, and exciting heels would fix the outfit. And maybe if her hair were in a cute, messy, high ponytail like Jennifer Aniston sports from time to time. I think those things would youth-en up the jacket.

Also, I bet if the sleeves of the jacket were cut off to three-quarter or half-sleeves, it would look cuter. It seem pretty wintery for the beginning of September.

For Demi: I can has color? The whole thing is just blah. The ruffles are too much and the skirt is too long. Plus, what the hell is she doing with her head? It's a lovely face but it need not be aimed like a weapon.

Rumer: She looked lovely in that white dress the other day. It was young and fresh. This looks like she found it in the leftovers from the tag sale at my mom's church. She needs to look like the 21 she is. So, a dress or skirt/top that fits appropriately all over. Maybe in an emerald green in a drape-y fabric.

I think Rumer looks pretty good, but I would like to make the top a mini-dress and then give her some kick-a$$ shoe in a pop of color. The short skirt would be balanced out by the long sleeves so it wouldn't look too bare. I think she finally got the hair color right too.

At first I thought Demi looked fine. She is so pretty she can pull almost anything off, but the more I look at her, the more problems I see. Length of dress in not great; would love to see her in a color, maybe fuschia or purple. The belt looks so cinched in, like she can't breathe; but if her waist is really that small, then the dress is just too big and poufy for her. I like ruffles, but this just seems a bit much.

I really can't handle Demi's dress, even if it were in a gorgeous color (see whats-her-name in the green dress with side ruffles from the other day). I love her in those Roland Mouret dresses from a couple of seasons ago.

As for Rumer, I love the jacket and maybe make the pants a soft pink to give the outfit more of that salty-n-sweet vibe. like pretzels and ice cream.

p.s. I love her name.

Take Rumer's sleeves off entirely, put a sexy bright camisole underneath, and replace pumps with wide-strappy shoes. Done.

You know, I think I like the lace thing. I think all she really needs to make it work is more confidence.

It's fair to say that I don't see what you see. Personally I find the jacket very demure even with the skin on show and the trousers are classic. She may not look 'hip' but at least she doesn't look like Lindsay Lohan.

www.fashionflesh.blogspot.com

Rumer: Her hair and makeup look good. I'd make the top sleeveless, add a more interesting belt, have her put on some beautifull tailored classic trousers and a killer pair of heels and she'd be done.

Demi: Her hair and makeup always look great and I like the dress. Give her a killer pair of heels and a clutch with some bling and she'd be good to go.

*beautifully

Oops!

What is the point of ragging on Rumer's face?

She is under no obligation to immolate herself or retire from public life because she does not fit some loser's idea of what constitutes a pretty girl. (And someone who in a public forum calls people "butt-ugly" or variations thereof and implies that those people are less than human based on their appearance is a loser -- now, forever, and always.)

Sure, who her parents are gives her a big head start. But if Rumer decides to take a shot at the acting thing despite not fitting into current notions of gorgeousness, good for her. She might even get to be better at it than a more conventionally pretty woman. Everybody used to say how ugly Sarah Jessica Parker was, too.

I actually think Rumer makes Demi look like she's trying too hard. She's a fresh kid wearing fresh looking clothes - I have less a problem with the pants than the odd cutouts in the jacket - and then mom looks like she's worked really hard to LOOK fresh. Thumbs high to Miss Rumer!

I think you have it backwards. Rumer is finally looking decent. You tend to be a little hard on her (not that she doesn't deserve it), and here she is finally looking normal and somewhat sweet and you give her a habitual (and maybe it is from habit) blasting. Demi, on the other hand, looks atrocious. Way too much fabric, everywhere. It makes her look too round, too black, and out of control. A little restraint would go a long way. Demi seems to be relying on her reputation with this dress, and it's not enough to carry it off.

how about some silver skinny pants? maybe shoes that aren't from Payless circa 2002? Even maybe a nice silver strappy sandal with the ugly black pants?

Although I don't hate either of those outfits, I have to side with the folks who suggested a camisole for Rumer--a jacket is not a shirt. I like to err on the side on more clothing rather than less, but really, if your outfit is being held on with fashion tape, maybe you should have a back-up layer. I think that jacket (disclosure: I hate shoulderpads) would look nice paired with a soft peach, either a satin camisole or an interesting skirt. Not too interesting, since the jacket is already making a pretty solid statement on its own, but, you know, something maybe with a texture. Actually, I think I'd like to see her with that jacket over a peach satin sheath dress with some hardcore couture black-lace-over-nude shoes. Call me crazy, but I think it would work.

It took me a while to figure out what I dislike about Demi's dress, but then I realized: it resembles tire tracks. Ruffled tire tracks. Like someone drove over her wonderful body and glue-gunned in the wake. Ruffles, I love--I absolutely adore ruffles--but not those ruffles. I'm not sure it's fixable.

And I have to weigh in on this: someone said that Rumer looks like Bruce Willis in drag. Have you seen Bruce Willis in drag? Because a) petty and pointless insults aside, she does not look like that (and she looks perfectly fine and the hate-fest reflects a lot of things but not reality), and b) I find Bruce Willis in drag weirdly attractive. I saw him in a wig on Letterman--I guess that's happened multiple times now--and it was really disturbing to find myself thinking that he should wear women's wigs more often. I am not comfortable with that.

Stepawaaaaay from your hot Mom... SORTED!!

Nate. xxx

That top might be a little old for Rumer, but it's very, very flattering. Demi's steel-like jawline is starting to look really scary. And is it just me, or does she seem to be vamping as if to say, I'm barely old enough to be Rumer's older sister!

Huh. I guess I am in the minority here, because I was appalled by both "outfits." ("getups" might be more accurate) Those ruffles and that big flower thing ...UUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH! And those horrible, skin tight, yet not fitted pants on the spawn! Meanwhile, she should be ticketed for wearing Barbara Walters' jacket. Her outfit is a combo of eighty and elegant meets the 13 year old sk8ter girl. However, Rumer's outfit would best be fixed by a bag over her head. As to your comment that "she is getting there," exactly where is she getting? Has she passed Irrelevant Place and Talentless Boulevard and collected her $200? Now go directly to fashion jail!

I just realized what it is about those black ruffles and that flower thing that bug me so much - it looks like the inside of Elvira's coffin blew up and she's wearing it.

If Rumor could change to some other pants or a skirt, I'd be in.

That jacket is exactly what a mother of the bride wears, although maybe in a different color. Removing the sleeves would improve it, but not much. Any garment that consists entirely of lined lace is potentially damaging. And the belt doesn't help--why break up a sleek line? The trousers fit terribly in the crotch. Rumer needs to start over completely.
As for her face, though, I think she's much prettier than she's reputed to be. Look at her eyes! Her lovely skin! Her elegant nose! It's only her Leno jawline that detracts, and for that she needs a different haircut--one that's full and swingy.
Demi needs to lose the belt too, and then the rose, and then the ruffles. Also, the shoes are giving her cankles.

Demi's ruffles are hideous. I'd ditch it for something sleeker. Rumer is kind of blah. While I loathe skinny pants and would rather see her in a cute pencil skirt, they are wonderful compared to the jacket. It doesn't do much for her. Color? Please? A nice, rich red or purple blouse. For some reason I'm itching to see her in purple, like it will suddenly make her look interesting.

I think that Demi is getting a bit old for unrelieved black, and the ruffles make her try too hard to look young. And I agree, the shoes are giving her cankles. Maybe it's just not the most flattering picture. After all, she usually looks fabulous.

Rumer, I think, looks great. She has strong features and can take a jacket that would look too old for many girls her age - and she'll look amazing as she ages, which not all conventionally pretty girls do. Not the best cut trousers, but hey, her legs can take it. I think she'd look better in the ruffles than her mother does, and that her jacket would look fine on Demi.

I don't know that they should switch because I don't think I've ever seen Demi in something so matronly, and I don't know that all those ruffles would look right on Rumer.

Instead, I'd like to see how the jacket would look without sleeves. She could also use some more dramatic shoes. Hell, she couldn't even wear a peep toe?

Demi looks ridiculous. That dress is super fug.

Rumer needs to let her mom borrow an outfit - girl is looking fine these days and that jacket is gorgeous!

They might look decent switching, but the way they are isn't bad. For Rumer, I agree with pretty much everyone so far: the jacket's pretty flattering, but it would look far better with a fun/cute/young-looking skirt, preferably in a color, or, failing that, pants that fit less awkwardly. Shoes that draw some attention to themselves would be nice, too. I like Demi's dress except for when the ruffles gather into that weird-looking giant rosette thing at the neck--a simpler neckline, and the dress is fab.

And I'm so glad Rumer abandoned the red-hair project--the darker looks so much better on her.

Very simple: throw away crazy lace blouse. Pick new blouse in cheerful, shimmery color or print.
Tailor pants to fit. Two inches shorter, one inch roomier all around.
Otherwise, they look great!

Btw I find it disgusting that people say such things about Rumer's looks. She's really very beautiful, and lately she seems to be dressing much better, so that her overall look is terrific! Even here, the bad pants are the only real fashion offense. The lace jacket thing is just a matter of different tastes. If they were standing alone instead of together, the black also wouldn't seem like so much black. But really, go hold a bag over your own mouth, if you said she should bag her head.

Put a simple red below-knee-length skirt on Rumer. TADA! It would be the instant fix she surely needs.

Rumer in some really hot shoes and a short, interesting skirt could work that jacket no problem. Although if someone (HELLO STYLIST) could have seriously short-sleeved that jacket too, things might improve even further. I'm almost tempted to try a really skinny ribbon of yellow or orange around her waist, but that might mess up the whole outfit, so. Maybe not.

Demi just needs some shoes of a different colour and a fabulous new clutch -- or at least some glittery ornamentation, because she looks a little funereal here. I'm not a fan of the ruffles, but she sure can wear the heck out of them, so no contest there.

Rumer's hair is looking better. Shorten the sleeves, swap the pants for a cute skirt and add some strappy shoes. She needs to find a stylist of her own, and if possible, avoid being photographed w/Demi.

Rumer, for Rumer, looks good. Everything fits. And she's struck a good balance between sexy and modest.

Demi looks frumpy. Lose the dress for a black cocktail number that (modestly) shows off her hot bod, even if she is out with her daughter. She could carry all black lace, and complement Rumer's jacket to look extra twee. Add some hot stilletos and strange earrings, and she's the offbeat Demi we all know and respond strongly to.

OK, can't even deal with Rumer til we address Demi's ruffle explosion (someone said the inside of Elvira's coffin?). I'm on the fence regarding ruffles, peeps, but, as with lace, a little goes a long way. Demi's have gone on way too long. She has this pouchy thing happening in the bazoomal area. What's up with that? Any dress that can look so questionable on Demi has just got to go. Black, OK, strong gemtone OK, but put her in something sleek and sophisticated. You can be glamourous at any age, but you gotta do it right. Something with maybe a blingy belt, and she can even keep the shoes and clutch.

Rumer: the lace is a nice, femmy touch to soften her a bit, though she has a look of confidence here, and I think we all agree that's essential. Let's keep it simple. Long sleeves are OK, sometimes it's nice not to give away the store, but lose the pouf and pads. I like the cutout effect, but for heaven's sake, we can see her tummy on either side of the belt. Camisole, please, in a show up color, maybe red, maybe blush pink. Then a smooth, slim skirt, not too long, not too short in black, silver (yummy!!!) or claret (to match the cami). Voila - young lady looks mature, but not frumpy.

I say, if Rumer wants to wear pants, then she should, because let's face it, she really doesn't have pretty legs. Go back and look at pix of her in short dresses - her legs are just not attractive. That said, however, the pants she's wearing here are awful. Not only do they not fit properly, but they look uncomfortable. Her stylist couldn't find her a pair of nice, tailored, stylish pants? C'mon. I also must agree with those who have said that she isn't strikingly pretty, but I wonder if a different hairdo would make a world of difference. She does have lovely skin and pretty eyes, and her hair just never seems to set those good features off. The lace top? I agree with previous commenters here, too - a pretty camisole under it would look great. And lose that ugly cinch belt! Ugh, I hate that thing! Take that and the shoulderpads away and she could even keep the long sleeves.
Demi - well, I don't love the dress on her, but minus a few dozen yards of ruffles, a few inches of hemline, and that ghastly belt, it could be.. okay. Oh, and better shoes for both of them.

I think Rachel McAdams solved many of the problems with the jacket single-handedly: http://justjared.buzznet.com/2009/09/04/rachel-mcadams-american-film-festival/

Well, actually, imagine Rumer with a ruffled dress and and a rose on her chest. That won't spice anything up, I think..
So swapping outfits: Nope. Cutting suff in two: Yes. Rumer gets the top and a skirt showing some leg. Demi gets the ruffled top and a pair of skinny pants. Still showing her legs, and the face.
Would work for me.

Yes, they should switch. Get that dress on Rumer, lose ALL dem ruffles, change the color to a pale Chinese gold, and give her some luscious black strappy heels. As for her mom, blow those pants off, put that jacket over a camisole in a peachy gold, put her in a pair of fitted golden orange cigarette pants, and slip a pair of dark charcoal silk mules on her feet. Give them both a spritz of something custom from the scent soukh in Tangier.

P.S: Everybody will love puffed shoulders in about 1,5 years.
I's coming up.

I'm late to the party, but just to clarify: When I wrote "Lose the pants" I didn't mean, don't REPLACE them with something. I just forgot to specify that I would swap in a skirt. Oops. Heh.

In other photos Rumer looked much more confident and just fine. I vote, let her be.

I'd make the lace on the jacket something other than black--electric blue maybe--to youthen it up a bit.

And then make her either wear pants that fit, or a simple black pencil skirt.

I'm leaving Demi alone.

I can't do this! I'm only a woman for gd's sake!

"Billy Bob and June" need to refrain from offering fashion advice and take a few tips on basic human decency. As the mom of a special-needs child, I find the word "retard" a ridiculous and offensive descriptor for a celebrity (or anyone) who, while undisputably fashion-challenged, is not known to be mentally impaired otherwise. Also, "Bobbin Frank" would do well to steer clear of the runway and learn that the word "jizz" has no place in just-for-fun "Fug Fashion" commentary. Stick to the clothes, folks. . . and save the uncouth rants for conversations best held with your own bathroom mirror.

You know what? Let it be. I kinda like it.

Ew, I think Demi's dress is BAD. I think it's busy and frumpy and old.

Rumer looks pretty good, but kind of hot (like in temperature). There's just a LOT of material in that outfit, then close-toed shoes, too. It's like a Christmas party outfit. I agree that a cute skirt and some fun, young shoes would help the whole thing out, and maybe a cap sleeve on the the top?

R Willis is the ugliest woman ever posted in GFY. Why do you continue to torture us?

Rumer looks so much better than usual. Her hair and makeup are really nice. The pants fit poorly, but still aren't that terrible. It's pretty nice for her - she is improving. Normally I like Demi's look, but it's all so similar it's getting a bit boring. Her face looks kind of strained and unattractive too ( she looks kind of jealous). Still, it's a classy outfit.

Rumer - Honey, PLEASE stand up straight. Pull up the pants so you don't have wrinkles at your crotch. And for the love of all that is holy, do not stand pigeon-toed. It makes you look 2 years old (and not just you, but every other actress/model/whatever around. The next one of you I see standing pigeon-toed with her hand over her mouth while she "giggles" is going to bed at 7 o'clock for the next four years until she's old enough for kindergarden. Just try me if you think I don't mean it). Also, please don't bend your knees. It's not a crime to be taller than your mother.

I do think you're wrong this time. Demi's dress is idiotic, and no one should wear it. Rumer looks great.

Can anyone ever address the elephant in the room? Rumer is just unattractive. Demi and Bruce are ungodly gorgeous, wtf happened? And that jacket/pants crap is hideous.

Rumor needs to go to the gym. She's cute, but always seems so DOUGHY. Nothing a treadmill and Boflex can't solve. Anyway, the outfit doesn't need much, but if it were me, I'd take out the shoulder pads, cut the sleeves up to 3/4 length, swap the pants for a pencil skirt with a little color and some awesome shoes (preferably with some strap or peeptoe to them). So close girl!

I'd change the pants (lousy fit, but why? Certainly Rumer has access to a good seamstress), but I have to say that this is the best I've ever seen Rumer look. On the other hand, everytime I see her picture I ask myself, "Why doesn't she just have work done on her chin?" I remember a few years back there was a Miss America who had been born with a lantern jaw not dissimilar to Rumer's. (She was blond, of course, so she sortof looked like a female Peter Martens actually.) Well, she had it shaved down (I don't know the official medical description) and she turned into a beauty, or at least enough of a beauty to become Miss America. With her old chin she would have been stuck as Miss Congeniality, that is, if she had even made it to the pageant, which is unlikely.

I can rag on celebrities clothes as well as the next, but the remarks on a person's features that they were born with need to stop, really! I think they both look great, I wouldn't wear either outfit but that's just personal taste. I'm just so happy that Rumer has learned to stand proud and tall, good for her!

Seriously. No more personal attacks on Rumer's face. Please.

KEEP IT TO THE CLOTHES.

Thank you!

Am I the only one who thinks Demi looks desperate?

And I'm sure, Rumer looks fantastic, and probably just like Demi did, before any plastic surgery... or before Demi learned how to pose.

Note: I have always suspected that what was off about Miss Willis's face was that she was tense, unhappy, and lacking in confidence, and therefore holding her facial muscles tightly which makes her mouth look small. Pics from this red-carpet shoot, and stills from Sorority Row where she's hiding behind glasses seem to bear this out: she's very pretty when she's relaxed.

I think Jessica and Heather should close down these comments due to uncalled for, inappropriate, and cruel remarks about a young woman's facial features, which are patently NOT the topic at hand here.

Since they haven't yet, the clothes: I don't love that jacket. Lace isn't my favorite thing. But I think Rumer looks pretty good, if still uncomfortable. I agree with posters who call for her to a) stand up straight, b) get some tailoring on those pants, and c) do something else about that belt. Like maybe have a buckle on it, for God's sake, and have pants that come up to it so we're not seeing belly above and below. More interesting shoes would be good too, maybe even just in a bright color. Green? Red? Purple? Anything really.

As for Demi, well, she certainly knows how to wear clothing but that dress is pretty awful. Slouchy, ill-fitting, weirdly cut around the shoulders, and that insane flower thing… Demi needs to start over, and in her case, skip the all-black.

I agree with the poster above, Rachel McAdams has taken the same jacket and put it with a short full skirt creating more of a cocktail look. A narrow skirt would look even older. That said, I don't know that look is Rumer, I think it would actually be better on Demi. Then Rumer could wear the ruffle dress.

Another picture of the jacket with a skirt.

http://usmagazine.com/hotpics/photos/red-carpet-couple-200949

It's looks amazingly younger with the skirt.

I'm with the "skirt" replacement for those vile ski-pants thingies, for my money something reasonably short and straight and sassy to inject as much YOUF into the top as possible, plus kick-ass shoes and could they somehow be robot ones that pry apart her pigeon toes? Or would that then turn down her shoulders?

Demi's dress is a bit fug, but so it damn well should be, this is Rumer's night.

I like the jacket. The pants are fine, but kind of boring...maybe a nice swirly skirt instead.

Demi looks fab, and I'd leave her as is.

As for Rumer: She should either wear the same top, but in a solid version without all the crazy zigzagging in the middle, OR, should keep the top the way it is, but add some sort of formal silk-like black V-neck as a tank or tee underneath. I'd lose the dangly earrings and put in a pair of studs instead. And instead of those boring pants, either a black pencil skirt with bare legs or a black mini with black tights - not the completely opaque ones Zooey Deschanel used to wear, but sheer-ish ones. And I'd change those shoes to patent black peep-toes with a deep color polish on her toes.

The outfit is awful, but at least Rumer's finally figured out how to do her hair and make up so that she looks more like Demi and less like Bruce. Have to give her credit for that.

Pencilskirt on Rumer!

I'd love to see that top with some dark jeans and a killer red shoe. Marcasite jewelry would be nice I think. For Demi I don't know about her shoes with that dress but am at a loss on what to replace them with...Do you think she meant to match the sheen of her dress to her shoes, clutch, AND hair? Its intense in terms of matching. I do love Rumer's top though!

How about just swapping the clothes?

Black-cherry colored pencil skirt on Rumer. To just above the knees. Nice slit up the back.

Tempting to tone down the shoulder pads, but I think they might actually be okay, I just hate shoulder pads overall.

I think Rumer looks great and Demi looks like a 45 year old woman who is trying too hard to hang on to 28. But then, I'm a 45 year old woman and I think trying too hard to hang onto 28 looks - well, silly.

Like mother like daughter.

RUMER: I thought I was okay with the plunging neckline until I saw a different angle and got quite a flash of sideboob--honey, no. CAMI. In a color, maybe, depending on what you put down below. I would be okay with black pants (these are leggings, sorry, and I'm seeing minor polterwang), or nice jeans, or a knee-length skirt (black, silver, the off-white color of the jacket lining, the color of the cami--ANYTHING). If going with black on the bottom, color-pop shoes. Otherwise black shoes are fine. Honestly, even though I'm anti-shoulder-pads, I LOVE the jacket itself and would wear the s**t out of it.

I think she's wearing the same earrings as she did with the white dress for Letterman, and that makes me like her more. =)

And on a side note, the number of people that can't spell her name correctly is RIDICULOUS. When in doubt, SCROLL UP and read the opening post. Sigh.

DEMI: I looked at some other pics and the dress doesn't look so bad head-on, so I get why she thinks she looks good in it...but no. From this angle, it is FUG. And the shoes ARE making her cankle-y no matter the angle. And it looks like her hair is made of the same material. So start all over. LESS BLACK, please--if I had black hair I'd seldom, if ever, wear black. (As it is, I'm a redhead and I never wear reddish browns.)

actually rumor looks good, it's a nice anti-hollywood starlet outfit. wish demi would give her natural skin tone a go. i know cali beach babe is her thing, but she'd be quite the siren with glowing pale skin and a slighly warmed up hair color like her daughter. in this pic, rumor's glowing & demi's looking a little washed out.

I'd start all over and begin with some colour.

I think the problem with the pants is the tapered shape, they make her hips look wide rather than curvy. The sleeves of the jacket are in serious disagreement with the neckline, which is actually a bellybuttonline, or maybe a beltline. It needs to close SOMEWHERE. I agree that Mom's belt is hideous, like something that comes FREE!! with some Kmart pants. I wouldn't remove all of the detail from the dress, just choose either the rose or the full-length ruffle (I'd lose the rose). What I find hard to believe is that they are dressed for the same event. It looks like Demi was supposed to drop Rumer off at a campus bar on the way.

A skirt would have saved Rumer's outfit from being totally boring, but not from aging her 20 years.
I don't particularly agree with Demi's dress. The rose on her chest and the excessive ruffles probably look horrible from the side. Also, somehow, her feet look disproportionately small. Maybe different shoes there.

I think Demi was smart to belt that dress because it sure looked like it wasnt designed to be. But obviously not smart enough to have picked something else. Belting the ruffles gives it a weird shape especially from the side, but Demi is fabulous enough to make that quirk work. Still hot, so I give Demi a pass.

People need to cut Rumer some slack. She's trying and her face is not her fault. I say, the jacket's kinda edgy and I think it will look glamourous and age appropriate for her, with a cute skirt, above the knee but not too short. Like a cute lil ostritch plume skirt in black or a shiny-ish lil bubble skirt in black as well.. Spice it up with a jolt of color. Like hot orange patent pumps or something. I also think Rumer should totally die her hair red or brown, cut into a nice bob. A bit of volume would be nice for her.

I'm not too thrilled with Rumer's pants; I think a short black skirt or classy non-bootleg pants would be better, but I LOVE her jacket. It totally saves the outfit. Demi's dress though makes me shudder. It's an explosion of tacky yuck.

And what's with these people making nasty comments about Rumer's face?! People like this are the reason so many young women (and men) have body issues!

I think Rumer and her pants just look odd because she's standing so badly and the shoes are not spectacular enough. Straighten up girl and stand tall. And don't turn your feet in. Maybe some more adventurous lippy too....

Nice to have star parents. You don't have to know how to dress, or be attractive.

Ok, just as a caveat--I don't think either of them look bad, per se. Just not as a good as they could. Boy, people are mean about Rumer. Contain your class envy, folks! We have clothing to think about, here! You're letting the side down!

1. The pants and the lace top are different materials, so they are not photographing well together--they almost look like two different "shades" of black, and they are just off enough that the outfit doesn't work for me. I love the jacket, and I like that Rumer is going with something a bit more mature--way classier than what she normally has on. I have to disagree with the cami--there's just enough skin to make this interesting, not so much that she has to cover.

I'm thinking a mini in a matte fabric so that it doesn't look shiny the way these trousers do. The, shorten the jacket sleeves to a cap sleeve--you have a look that this is much more appropriate to September and to somebody in their 20s. Put on some hot red or bright blue shoes, and call yourself sassy.

And I have to say, you fug girls are never happy. AT LEAST SHE'S WEARING PANTS, which you can't assume is going to happen nowadays.

2. Both of them need some bling up top in the earring area, and Demi could use a necklace of some sort. Demi never chooses nice accessories, other than her hottie. Why that boring black clutch and boring satin shoes? She needs a nice evening clutch and some hot hot shoes. I'd go with the Christian Louboutin Mirror pumps here, for example. I am not as well-versed with evening bags as I should be, as I don't really like spending thousands on purses I will never use since I never go anywhere, but I'm thinking something sleek like those Sang A clutches.

They both look good, really.

Better fitting pants for Fille, and she's good to go. Start over again with Mere. Or omit her entirely.

I hate hate hate the jacket. It's totally mother of the bride.

If it were made into a halter or tank and paired with a really bright colored, short, full skirt it would at least look youthful. And those hideous shoulder pads would not be an issue.

I do love Rumer's eye makeup though, and wish I had skin like hers.

I really thought this was a picture of Ricki Lake and Demi Moore. I had to look at it three times before I was convinced it was Rumer. Ricki is lovely, and I would be happy enough to be mistaken for her, but I'm a decade older than Rumer. In the plus column, her hair is very flattering - soft and sophisticated. She also looks much more relaxed than her mother, and less self-conscious than she usually does. So overall, not bad for Rumer. But maybe losing the shoulder pads and shortening the sleeves to below the elbow and pairing with a short(ish) black skirt would be better.

I loved Rumer in that white dress. I think she should stick with that kind of style. This, the black and matronly style, ages her. She is young and chic and should dress like it, not like some club-hopping spoiled child of celebrities or a recently widowed 60-year-old already on the prowl for a new husband. The hair and makeup look good, but she needs color in her clothing.

I don't know what Demi was thinking. The only thing worse than having giant ruffles trailing down her front is smashing them down with a random belt. She needs to just start over.

Neither Rumer nor Demi will look good in peach or cream colors. They are both high-contrast winters...those colors would totally wash them out.

I think Rumer should be wearing a just above-the knee length skirt, in white, black, or even, preferably, a plum color. Make the shoes and belt complimentary shades of purple as well. She could also do crimson, though I think the plum would work better. Crimson is the go-to color for vibrancy and it's getting sort of tired.

Add a glittery silver clutch, or something, and some simple diamond stud earrings. Then she would look ravishing.

Neither Rumer nor Demi will look good in peach or cream colors. I imagine people think Rumer would look good in those shades because she is pale. That is not the case. They are both high-contrast Winters...those colors would totally wash them out. When pale Winters decide to bleach their hair blond, thinking it will match their skin-tone better, they usually look awful. Look at Rose McGowan, she looks BAD when she bleaches her hair.

Oh, and a little lipstick for Rumer. I don't know why she didn't think she needed some.

I think they both look good!
Rumer is wearing a totally on trend jacket (lace + shoulder pads= awesome)
and you cant accuse Demi of wearing a boring LBD, those ruffles are amazing!

Make the top sleeveless and pair it with a black pencil skirt instead of pants.

I'm pretty vicious (only when it comes to hollywood and fashion), but in this case I have to disagree with the majority of comments I've read here. And, shockingly, with Heather. I'm not really a Willis/Moore/Kutcher Klan fan, but I have to say the things I first noticed when looking at this pic still hold for me.
1. I like Rumer's outfit. Period. I would stick with the pants, especially because they're almost leggings.
2. Demi should have placed herself behind Rumer just slightly - it is Rumer's premiere, isn't it? It looks like Demi is positioned closer to the cameras.
3. I liked the fact that Demi is wearing something that's ruffle-y and less flattering (imho) than Rumer. It should be Rumer's night.
4. At this angle, you can tell Demi has had - at the very least - an eyebrow lift and botox. Despite her recent denials. Hollywood is a weird place.
5. I would probably throw myself off of a building if Demi were my mom; she's so lovely.

I wish shoulder pads were banned from existence. But, I'm pretty sure that I would be in love with that jacket otherwise.

And ruffles should only come in small quantities.

Aw, I like Rumer! And she is coming along that's true. That said, they both look entirely too funereal and not in a fun Goth-y way either. I'd put Rumer in an ink-black satin bias cut halter gown to show off her shoulders, earrings and that's it. Well, double faced tape to be on the safe side. And a wee purse. And then that would be it. Mom's fine.

Hmm...I was just thinking that a cool silver, sequined skirt on Rumer with that jacket would look interesting and take away from the maturity of the jacket and bring it to more of her age. The low cut aspect of the jacket would work better with a pencil skirt or other narrow cut skirt.

Rumors pants pull at the crotch.....not good. Rumor needs an updo more in keeping with the lace top and a pair of strait legged pants or pencil skirt with a more forceful shoe. Also, she needs a chin job, but thats another post.

I dont like Demis dress a all..I might like the whole look beter if her hair was in an updo .. and the belt.. all those ruffles AND a belt?

I think Rumor looks nice.. if I had to do anything to the out fit I would definatly 86 the puff sleeves and make the top just a little longer.. maybe mid hip.. I think she picke dthe right shoes... the jacket is the focal point of this outfit.. pairing it with red shoes would have been to much... I like how she kept her make up to a more natural look..she has one of those faces that you have to be able to take in as a whole to apprecitate the beauty of it..

Deleting the mean comments about the ass-ugly Rumer Willis doesn't make her any less assfug.

And to the mom-of-a-retard Laurie? Suck my dick.

Listen. Rumer Willis has a slight case of man-face. Which is fine, she can work it out . . . provided she stop wearing severe-looking garments with shoulder pads. Somebody a little more feminine could totally pull this off. And she should stand up straight. And not next to her mother, it makes her look bad in comparison. Whoops.
