Fug or Fab: Blake Lively

To begin with, I think we all need to remove our hats and salute Blake Lively's hair. It is glorious and I covet it:

The hair on her head, guys. Not on her skirt.

That being said, I don't wholly loathe this. It's textile, and fun, and a bit....well, it is a Where the Wild Things Are event. Maybe this is her way of suggesting that it's time for the wild rumpus to commence. I have to have some respect for someone who so clearly embraces a theme.

For the record, I am heavily biased in favor of feathers, fringe, and whatever the hell that skirt is made of. Nothing short of Aubrey O' Day could repel me from their allure.

I think it would work if the entire bodice were covered in the black lace.

I like it too. I kind of want to pet her.

I wish she could have afforded the whole bodice/top instead of just half. But her hair is glorious.

I like everything but the bodice where apparently the wild things tore off a chunk of the dress to get at the boob.

Love the outfit. Totally works for this event and her hair happens to be flawless.

I really can't believe its the same hair that Serena Van Der Woodsen has. They certainly take the whole 'hot mess' thing a little too far at times.

I LOVE the skirt part (reminds me of Milly's ostrich feather dress which I loved too), but the bodice is too much! Agreed about the hair...so glam!

I love the dress. I think it's perfect for the event, and if I were as young as Ms. Lively, I would be happy to wear it. She can totally get away with it. (On someone older, it would be a big, fat no.)

Also, I've been trying to get her hair since Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

I love this. She looks fabulous, we're not a strong (or weak in some cases) breeze away from seeing if she matched her underwear to her outfit, and she didn't go crazy with accessories or shoes, but just let the dress speak for itself.

Well played!

Perfect for a wild rumpus.

Her hair is glorious and Blake is a lovely girl. That said, the dress looks like she's a cocktail waitress at a Muppets In The Old West-themed bar.

I love the skirt! But the bodice is frumpy, and the beige part reminds me of a Sears casuals item. But the skirt! Pretty!

I like it all, especially the hair, wow, and the style is appropriate for the occasion, but am I the only one who thinks that skirt might--just might--be a tad too short?

None of it is working for me. I don't even like the shoes. But it is still not even close to being as bad as Momsen's best outfit.

I actually want the skirt to be fuller. And the bodice to come a bit lower. And to maybe be her for like an hour a day.

i like it for this particular event, but not as much as i like cake!

It's a little bit Wild Things On Ice for my tastes.

There's something about her admittedly enviable long legs combined with the length of the skirt that reminds me of the ostrich in Swiss Family Robinson. Many of the individual parts I like, but somehow I just can't fight the feeling that Ernst is going to jump on her back during the big race just before the pirate attack.

She looks part gorilla part prima ballerina. I do love her hair tho. I want to touch it. And I might want to smell it. Weird I know.

This teeters on costumey to me, and as much as I love Blake "Serena van der Woodson" Lively, I want nothing but to say this is amazing, but it's just not quite there for me.

On the other hand, with legs/boobs/hair like that? who the eff cares what she's wearing.

LOL @ Cheryl. I liked it but now i can't stop thinking of her twirling around in ice skates...
and no, Cecily, i agree that it is a tad too short.
I think her boobs look uncomfortably pushed up but compared to her usual bare-legs-and-navel theme, this is almost demure. it's kicky and fun.

I think the skirt needs to be a bit longer and fuller, sort of like she is starring as an evil sexy swan in Swan Lake? As it is now, she is approaching ice princess territory. Especially with that terrible bodice that is flashing her boob. I never thought I'd say this, but I never want to see Blake's boobs again.

I'd like it if the black lace was repeated on the other side with a deep V-neck.

And yes, she has fabulous hair. How annoying is Serena this season with all her "soul searching" at PR firms and waif hair, like she is just too tragically hip to buy a comb. BUY A COMB SERENA.

Sorry, that was a tangent.

I like the top half, I like her shoes, I wish the skirt wasn't furry.

Ugh, her body is perfection
Love her shoes, hair, and makeup
and the dress? cute!

Her hair reminds me of Aurora's hair in Sleeping Beauty: curly, shiny, blonde

The dress is...interesting: not fugly, per se, but artistic. I must say I like how restrained the rest of her look is. Neutral shoes, no other accessories, and gorgeous hair. She looks good!

This needs an "I DON'T KNOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW *clutches pearls*" option.

Because, well, see above.

It's cute and interesting - though I'm not a fan of the feathery-ness - and, thankfully, isn't trying to mimic a bandage wrapped around her hips. The girl has a figure - it's meant to be flattered, not tourniquet'd.

Also? @Jennie, I TOTALLY THOUGHT THE SAME THING. Blake Lively has the most Aurora hair on the planet right now - all cascading curls. Why can't hair & makeup get it together and do this for an episode or two?

@ Mary. No, she looks like an Osterich

I think it looks great on her and it's perfectly on theme. Sometimes actresses try to match to the theme of a movie and it doesn't work, but Blake has pulled this off well. I agree that this wouldn't work on an older person though.

This thing she is wearing looks like a skating outfit. I should know, I'm a professional one...
but those shoes!! wow!! I want them. now.

Were it at anything that wasn't the premiere of WTWTA, I think I'd be highly skeptical -- but it DOES look cute on her, and frankly everything related to this movie is going to earn solid points for me. In short: EEE MY CHILDHOOD.

Yes.

This is a perfect dress for ice dancing!

With legs (and hair!) like that, she could be in a gunny sack and look good...so jealous!

Seriously?? I hate everything about it except her face and hair (and maybe her legs, because she has great legs, but not even her equally great cleavage because really, it's not like it's worth as much when we see it ALL. THE. TIME). Unfortunately, she looks part bird, part prostitute, and part ice dancer. Her shoes are even that weird nude color that ice skaters wear so their skates look like their feet.

Just get rid of all the hoo-ha on the bodice - make it all the same black lace pattern, and we're in business.

The only thing I really think needs to be changed are the shoes. But really, how can you be mad at someone who looks so happy to be wearing an interesting super expensive dress on a redcarpet? I'll take her over pouty starlet #4 in couture any day.

Um, don't you mean tactile and fun (I suppose it is a textile, too, but...).

Also, can't believe you missed the chance to point out her outfit's homage to the hairiness of the Wild Things whose premiere she's attending.

My opinion of the outift: overdressed (for an indie-type children's book movie), underdressed (for the weather), and yes comically hirsute.

And to quote you (I think), legs or boobs, Blake, legs OR boobs. Even one of those splayed forth is a silly distraction from your gorgeous face and hair, let alone both in needlessly desperate unison.

I think Cheryl totally nailed it - Wild Things on Ice!!!

Her hair is phenomenal and I WANT the shoes. Her dress...notsomuch.

Nude fabric is just never a good idea. It doesn't look good on anyone. If the whole dress was black and the skirt were a little longer, I'd dig it.

Also, slightly off topic, but do these people actually watch the movie in the clothes they show up to the premiere in? Because I have stopped just short of wearing a scarf and snow pants into the movie theater. It's always so cold in there!

Love the top, hate the bottom.

I think the dress is adorable. I'm not that crazy about the shoes. I'm glad she didn't go over the top with the style of the shoe because that would have been too much. I just wish the shoes were black.

The dress is kinda cute, but mainly, for once, she is almost NOT SHOWING TOO MUCH SKIN, so for that I applaud the outfit.

I love her. I love her shoes. I love her skirt. And of course I love her hair.
But what is with the top half of that dress?!
Blair would not approve.
xx

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE

I love absolutely everything about this dress, her make-up and hair. head to toe perfect! It is a great shape on her too, she has an amazing body but sometimes can look a bit stuffed into her outfits or look a bit hippy, this is extremely flattering on a figure that really would look OK in a sheet

I think it's a really fun dress. It suits the event well, a long gown would have been too much. At first glance I wasn't sure how I felt but I think it's maybe because the skirt part goes up a little too high for my liking. I like it though, and am so glad she wore it with nude colored heels, black would have changed my opinion about the whole thing.

I would really like the dress if it weren't for the bodice's left-side's foray into lingerie land. Maybe if the black lace covered it, or it was another color? I dunno. But as it is, it looks like half of the overlay went missing.

I hate it when commenters pick on grammar or spelling, but this is the second time I noticed this one particular mistake, and you gals are just better writers than this, so I have to agree with Ally above: the dress is tactile, meaning the textiles used to make the garment have lots of texture and/or invite you to explore the sensations of touching them. alternatively, you can say textural, I guess. But I don't think that's officially a word.

SHE looks great, but as others have noticed, it's a little too figure skater-y for me. The Love Theme from Ice Castles actually started up in my head when I saw it.

I kind of like the top, but, yeah, the skirt is a tad too ostrichy.

It only works because it's for a Where the Wild Things Are event.

well, we now know where the wild things are.

I'm okay with this because she wore it to this specific event - if she were at, say, a charity event, I would give it a big thumbs down.

And yeah, her hair is fantastic. How does she do that?

Hello from Russia!
Can I quote a post in your blog with the link to you?

I HATE the dress - but I think shes making it work. Love the hair and how the shoes match the top of her dress.

Perfect dress for the event, and her hair is definitely glorious !

Would it kill this girl to wear clothes her size? I mean, yes, her torso technically seems to fit in the top half of this dress, but I am terrified that her gorgeous long legs will one day decide to revolt and flee from her ever shortening hem line! If she had this dress the next size up then it would fit her long frame better. As it is the top looks like it sits a little too high, and the skirt is riding up dangerously close to showing us all her wild side, if you know what I mean. As to the top though- I am wondering if this is just an awkward angle, or if her left lady lump is really trying to make a break for it. She looks like she needs to shift the bodice over, or perhaps have the bodice cover both sides of her torso equally. As it is I kind of feel like we are seeing too much of her flesh colored corset than we are meant to see.

Forget her hair, I covet those legs.
