Fug or Fab: Carey Mulligan

Thanks to her performance in An Education, Carey Mulligan here is getting a reputation for being The Next Big Thing.

spl135117_027.jpg

Concurrently, I wonder if The Next Big Thing is looking faintly like you stole your mother's best cocktail dress and her fanciest shoes, are trying to crash the red carpet because you heard there's an open bar, and are three seconds away from punching anyone who asks to see your invitation. I'm thinking a few inches up on the hem, shoes that fit, and a smile might've made this work a tiny bit better -- and maybe even her own pixie cut rather than a David Bowie bouffant -- but maybe I'm not giving this enough credit, because at the end of the day, the dress ITSELF might be kind of awesome. Still, somehow, I just can't shake the idea that she's wearing purloined goods and has a shiny new switchblade in her purse for the first person who taps her on the shoulder and asks who she's wearing. I pray to God that person is not Joan Rivers, because America needs Joan Rivers. I hope I am that sassy at seventy-six. ... Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh yes:

She totally looks like Rick Astley.

HA!

I was thinking a young Brian Setzer.

How old is this girl, and why did her mother let her wear dress-up clothes out of the house? Halloween isn't until Saturday, no?

I agree, Anastasia Beaverhausen, that is Rick Astley in drag, and that is NEVER good.

The dress is too long, the shoes are too casual for the dress, and a touch more make up would do her good. Don't like. Don't like. Don't like.

How hard it it to get clothes/shoes that fit? Or a lipstick, maybe?

So this girl looks like a 10-year-old. I was shocked to find out via Wikipedia that she's like 24! Craziness.

I agree with you completely! The dress would look better shorter, need other shoes. She looks like she is really cute when she's smiling and I can't believe she's more than 17!

I think she looks pretty! But she also looks like she really gave 'looking grownup/sophisticated' her best go, had serious doubts about high heels, and let someone who should not have been giving her advice convince her that this was THE thing to do with her hair. And I think she's not so happy with the way she thinks she looks, making it a bit hard to smile... although it would help.

Can't agree that she needs makeup though; she has such nice skin, and a bit of pink in her lips, and it's nice to see someone looking fresh and clean. Plus, she's mercifully left her eyebrows alone, so her face doesn't look like an empty mask.

I like the dress, but it could be a bit shorter, and I'd add spaghetti straps.

Yes! That's what it needs - a funky, fun lipstick to make it look like she belongs in the outfit.

...

LOL

This girl has that "bratty look" going on, much like Miley Cyrus.
Nothing looks good on you when the expression on your face broadcasts BRAT all the time.

What? Fred Flintstone died? This girl totally looks like Wilma ready to head to the funeral..

Hey, lay off the hair. I'm currently rocking a similar style. Sometimes, when you go to the hair dresser in too good a mood, you give the stylist too much creative licence and wind up with a mohawk-like bouffant, perhaps against your wishes... perhaps because you have to take off your glasses during the colour and cut and without them are completely blind, and thus have no opportunity to tell the overly-funky chick wielding the scissors that, NO, you do NOT want potential employers to be able to see your scalp on both sides. Really, at that point, all you can do is wear it like you own it. Leave the hair alone.

Carey Mulligan looked SO much better and more age appropriate when she had blond hair:

I wish she would go back to that, and get a better stylist.

Oh, it's just too big for her - she needs to take it up somehow 2-3 inches.

But I see what she's going for hairwise and I love it...but maybe it's just because, at around 13, I desperately wanted to look like that girl in the Stray Cats video "sexy and 17" - remember? short girlified Brian Setzer 'do crawling around in a purple-and-black (I think) polka-dotted strapless mini dress? the short hair made her (I thought then) just this side of slutty, because it was FUN or Androgynous or something. I still feel all cravy-and-I wish I were her when I think of it, it was that strong an impact.

Anyway I think this one's cute. But that she needs a tailor and less slippy shoes.

The hair has moxie, the dress ain't too bad, and even the stabby expression is kind of refreshing.

I just can't get past the shoes. They're very clumsy looking, and too big. With slicker shoes, maybe in a bright color, I think I'd love this.

Perhaps she is confused about what the "next big thing," is, and thought that AS such, she was supposed to wear big things?

I am okay with the dress, not wild about the shoes, but the HAIR IS KILLING ME!

ok I just watched that video and turns out Brian Setzer was cuter than the (28 year old) sexy @17 girl. She's totally slutty! but it's pretty delightful anyway. that said, Carey here looks ever more chic and well-scrubbed.

She just needs to raise the hem to slightly above the knee and lose the orthopedic sandals. Thinner straps on the shoes, or a neutral pump would be better.

She does look like Rick Astley with the hair, but it works for her.

She is so young and the dress/hair are really aging her. She doesn't look that bad (besides the bitchface) though. If the dress were shorter and the shoes fit she would look alot better.

And cheer up girl! You're dating Shia LeBeef, life can't be that bad.

The dress is awesome and it looks great on her, but you are right. She does always look stabby and I do not understand why. She is cute, young, successful and has a cute boyfriend. Pretty sure all that means she can smile.

I hate to complain about this being dowdy because of grossly inappropriate things other young actresses wear (Momsen, I am looking at you. And really? We are back to you alienating your family while attempting to be Queen of the School again?). That being said, it IS dowdy. Lose a few inches off the hem, find some better shoes and I think we may have a winner. I even think the bouffant 'do is kind of cute.

The dress isn't so bad, but the skirt of it looks big on her. Plus the shoes are awful.

And she DOES look stabby. I'm guessing she was just trying to look serious because she's young and doesn't want to be labeled as the perpetually "cute little girl."

Clearly, something went amiss.

I think slightly smokey eyes (nothing too dramatic) and a couple shades darker on the lipstick would make the hair look better. Right now I feel like her face is too demure for such a severe hair style. Then hem the dress. Give her grandmother her shoes back and put on some sexy heels and she should be 100% better.

The hair ... I just cannot get past the hair.

My honest reaction is: "did we need a Brittish version of Ellen Page? Because I sure didn't order this"

Change the hair, the shoes and slightly hem the dress and you've got a winner.

The hair is great, and the dress could be a little shorter. But the shoes! If your gonna look that stabby you might also need some shoes you can run in.

1) is it just me, or does she have a facial resemblance to her main squeeze, LaBeouf? (and why does everyone think he's hot? clearly, i am a contrarian.)

2) i have that haircut and canNOT rock the bouffant, but it's ok on her. i think, with her colouring, a cocktail dress with more colour would look really great. (the perpetual complaint.)

3) lose those shoes, girl. eeeek. get something more fun! pumps, if you prefer a shorter heel. or even some spunky kitten heels.

The dress is nice but is too long on her. The shoes are too grandma-ish and her hair is too old for her as well. A little lipstick would help. I've never heard of her so I'm going to have to go IMDB her after my rant.

I think this would be fab if anything fricking fit. Imagine how smiley she'd be if her shoes weren't three sizes too large? I'm always with the pouting when my shoes don't fit. Oh, the chafing! The blisters! Poor thing.

I can't believe I am saying this - I've been a hater of all those micro-short, crotch-baring dresses the "starlets" are wearing lately - but this dress needs to be significantly shorter. Then it would be fine. The shoes however, the shoes... they really do look like she's playing dress up in her mother's shoes. She needs different shoes, less clunky and preferrably in her own size.

Her hair is exactly the same colour as her eyebrows. This is... disconcerting. She's a natural blonde and looks good with it, and why she's ditched her cute-as-a-button pixie cut is beyond me. Fringing on the dress smells like Grandma's chenille bedspread: lose the fringe, take at least three inches off the length so it hits just above the knee, find some shoes in a sassy colour (Sparkly purple perhaps? Or green?) and perhaps also a nice chunky, colourful necklace instead of that "mature" gold bangle she's wearing. Set!

Those shoes are AWFUL. They look like the orthopedic sandals my grandma wore in 1980. Change her shoes and she would have looked fab, no question.

ugh @ the shoes... terrible!

Shorter dress; lose the bow (it's invisible and kills her waist), more definition in the skirt (is it a bubble? A-line? decide).

Also: lipcolor, for God's sake different shoes with some oomph, and one piece of knockout jewelry.

Oops. I should have looked her up before I commented. The girl is 24 and looks 12. I stand by most of what I said, though.

Well:
a) This girl needs a tailor. She seems kind of tiny and I bet that dress would be the perfect length on someone over five feet high.

b) Makeup. It's like she forgot about her face.

c) This girl has just RICKROLLED everyone. I bet she walked around murmuring "Never gonna give you up" all night.

dress, absolutely. hair, shoes, pissy look on the face... not so much.

Laura, you are not alone in your contrary-ness.
I don't get the "LaBeouf Love" either. Not at all.

A little lipstick, a nice pedi in a cute funky color, maybe a cute necklace or some earrings to play up that gorgeous neck of hers, and, most importantly:

Switch the shoes so she's wearing them on the right feet. I'd swear she's got them on wrong...Or uncross her ankles so it doesn't LOOK like she's got them on wrong (and dramatically lessens her risk of toppling over if David Bowie just happens to walk by and compliment her 'do.).

I like each piece separately, but not together. Her makeup would be cute with a more casual look, the dress would be awesome if it were the right length (a teeeny bit shorter, but not much), the shoes would be great in her size, her jewelry and clutch are fine, even the bouffant hair is decent. But slapped together and mostly in the wrong size, I had to click "fug" on this.

On someone three inches taller with feet two sizes bigger, this would be fantastic. Best to change her clothes into something that fits and give this outfit away.

I actually really like the dress...on an older woman, with more delicate shoes, a cheerful disposition and any hairdo but that one.

Seems like the outfit and 'do required a lot of effort, so it's weird she ended up looking like a nine-year-old boy in his older sister's dress.

Or Rick Astley in his older sister's dress...

I love how everyone lately is whining about lack of lipstick on a lot of these women. I find it refreshing that there's starlets out there, like me, who prefer to wear next-to-no make-up. More natural versus 1950's pancake and rouge. Don't get me wrong, a spot o lip colour or eye colour is awesome, but sometimes you can look fab without. I love her hair. I too am wearing similar hair at current, whether or not it is a bit Rick Astley...;) I think the only bad thing about this is the obviously too big shoes. If they fit her better, or had a little more detail to them, I think the whole outfit would be rockin'.

I think the dress looks great if you ignore everything else. Different hair, and shoes that don't look like she pulled them out of the back of someone's closet/goodwill pile would vastly help.

I have high hopes she will prove herself a worthy SWINTON protege

The dress is fab. It belongs on someone who won't ruin it with trashy ill-fitting shoes, ridiculous hair (well, on a 12 year old it is), boring accessories that don't really go, and a look that manages to combine existentialist boredom with teenage sturm und drang.

She sort of looks like a young Shia, actually.

....agreed on better fitting shoes. Perhaps a sheen of gloss.

lose the bow and maybe a more elegant pair of shoes. but my biggest issue with it is the bow.

it's the shoes that are ruining it, that's all. I find her stabbiness quite hot.

I know she's in her early 20's, but the poor lass looks no more than 12, and slightly guilty that she's swanning around the house in her older, taller sister's best LBD while she thought everyone was at the market stocking up on Wheatabix. To fix this...

1) let your hair down - literally and figuratively (smile, gal, you've arrived!)

2) shorten that dress to just above the knee

3) find some shoes you aren't in peril of falling out/off of

I'm just so glad we don't have to tell yet another attractive young woman to put some more clothes on.

Indeed. The dress does look big. And a bit old for her. Also, the shoes are too big. I know this because I can see the inside of her shoes from the front of her - and I don't think it is supposed to work that way.

As for the hair, it has moxie, but the kind of moxie reserved for waiting in line for bowling shoes while the rest of your outfit is a torn t-shirt and loud-colored pair of jeans.

Also, her shins are a different color than the rest of her hide. Is that some lady-affliction I am not familiar with?

I'd make the dress about 3" to 4" shorter. Ditch the orthopedic sandals. And if she's going to wear any shoes that have open toes, I think she needs some kind of nail polish down there.

Don't mind the hair, even if yes, she really does look like Rick Astley.

I feel sorry for these young girls who are suddenly in the limelight. Her stylist's name/photo should be posted right alongside this picture.

The hair, the dress, the makeup, none of it works, but the shoes are a crime.

she could use some eye makeup

Going against the current here, but I don't think that's a pissy look; I think the camera just caught her at the wrong time. IT HAPPENS. Anyway, I love the hair, because how much do we all love Rick Astley, really? She just needs to yank up her hem an inch or so, and get some better shoes. And maybe the dress could stand to be the same pattern all the way down?

When I read the option "... if only she didn't look so stabby," I was sure it was *supposed* to read "stubby."

DIFFERENT SHOES DIFFERENT SHOES!! they look like shoes that came with my dress up clothes when I was a little kid! it wouldn't hurt to raise the hem a bit too, but mainly GET RID OF THOSE SHOES and she would look worlds better.

I actually really love her hair. I would raise the hemline of the dress to above her knee and put her in some black peep-toe patent leather pumps. Also I'm thinking a little lipstick and a tad more eyeliner would not be amiss here.

I think this one is an easy fix: a few inches off the hem, different shoes, lipstick and bolder eye make up, and I think she'd look great. I'm even okay with the hair.

I like the idea of punky hair with that dress, but wish the dress itself was a little shorter. And for the love of God put some stilettos on, girlfriend!

i think the hair needs edgier makeup to make it less severe-looking and more i'm-young-and-funky. the shoes are a tragedy. those straps really shorten her legs (quite a feat -- the girl is leggy). i do think the dress is pretty though. it just needs better styling.

Swinton needs a protege! I think she would be a great candidate.

granted, she does look like rick astley.

otoh, i also think she looks like she's new to this whole red carpet business [she is] & is more awkward & uncomfortable than pissy. she doesnt really look annoyed--more like she's unsure what to do.

perhaps it takes one of the separated-@-birth price twins to make every day since birth seems, @ least to the separated-@-birth price twins, to be born for their very own red carpet[s].

other than that, the dress is too elderly & the shoes make no sense whatsoever. are the backs of them supposed to look that way? seems to me that if one's shoes dont fit, the backs are not so spectacularly, if weirdly, parallelly perpendicular. otoh, could be the generally wonderful olivier theyskens had another lunatic day [as when he made the ricci {nina not christina} half heels].

ah well.

I haven't seen An Education, but I've seen some stills, and Carey looks about 20 years older in them than she does here, despite the matronly dress and weird shoes. Seriously, what's going on with them? They look like they're about 2 sizes too big, and had to be tied onto her feet. I think she also needs some makeup- a little eyeliner and some lip color would go a long way to make the dress (which I'm not 100% against) look a bit younger and less severe.

The length of the portion of the dress she is referring to as skirt is too long, which combined with the cankle inducing shoes, makes her look stumpified.

Also, why does appear that her shoes are too big for her, thus accomplishing the look of playing dress up in mommy's "sexy" shoes look.

She does look a bit stabby.

i agree with you, a few inches up on the hem, more normal and less bouffant with the hair, better fitting shoes and a bit more pizazz.

pizazz could be some pink lippie...

And i just read above that she is dating Shia Le however you spell beouf. And the last time i saw her she did look kinda stabby. Smile girlie it's Shia! YOU WERE ON HIS MOTORBIKE, i would have been a bit more content to say the least.

The hair is the only thing I like. Hate the shoes, whether they fit or not. And the dress wouldn't be bad if the fabric was a bit.. less busy.

love the hair. like the dress. I bought those shoes at payless in 1999.
Cute, pointy high heels would have saved this.

Anyone who is a Doctor Who fanatic will know her as Sally Sparrow (as someone else has pointed out) and she looked so naturally pretty and fresh with the blond hair! I just don't see her with dark hair at all.

OMG she DOES look like Shia! Is that really so surprising though, considering how he feels about his mom? Almost makes sense that he'd date someone who looks like him!

Actually, I could get along without Joan Rivers JUST FINE.

Fab but for the shoes. I'm down with the stabby.

Either she has weirdly-developed traps (for a girl) or she's a stabby slOUCHer.

People slouch in topless dresses, I suppose, because they don't want to pop out. (I can't seem to try on a topless dress without popping out myself, which is why I never wear topless dresses).

I'll give her credit for looking androgynous, though. But she doesn't look happy about it.

Are those ERGONOMIC shoes? I should not see beige suede soles peeking out. And yes, stick your head under the faucet and you're good to go, toots. I friggin' hate Rihanna-esque crazy weird sculptural short hair on ladies. Sorry, but I just do.

Er, I mean STRAPLESS, not topless!

Topless dresses: commonly known as skirts.

This is the first time I've been compeled to put in my two cents. The reason? I wore almost this exact outfit to my 8th grade graduation! In 1994.

Oh, I did wear a big black velvet mad hatter hat with it (gotta keep it interesting:)

The dress reminds me of trying to be mature by wearing a coctail dress, which looking back did not fit me and I don't know why my mother allowed me to buy it that size. And the shoes that didn't fit-to this day I have a hard time buying good looking shoes that fit. Not to mention go with what I'm wearing!

this is one of those outfits that I wouldn't take a second glance at. The hair however bothers me. I'm not a fan of the pompadour unless you're Conan O'Brien or modeling haute couture in Vogue.

that dress is fine it's everything else that is wrong wrong wrong. pasty face, terrible oversized shoes, frosty nude hose (!), ugly bracelet and equally ugly satin clutch, necklace-free neck and total lack of attitude to pull off whatever look she's trying for.

i am low-maintenance too but you can't just throw on a strapless be-feathered cocktail dress, gel your hair and think "i'm done!"

I'm actually fine with the hair and makeup. I think her face looks fresh and her hair is interesting without being over the top. But c'mon, little girl, smile! You're being noticed! You're at an event! Be happy! Stop trying to be so sophisticated and smug and just SMILE! Also, yes, hem that dress and lose the shoes.

Love the dress, but it's ruined by the ill-fitting shoes and ESPECIALLY by the fugly bouffant hair.

I like her hair. Doesn't go with the dress but the color is cool, it's really shiny, and the style is unique. It's kinda weird too, but I'm diggin' it.

The dress is too much for her, needs to be on someone who's more glamorous and less funky.

The shoes must go. They're bad 90's. I think Kelly Taylor wore them with her scarf wrap skirts.

Kill the shoes. Seriously, how can she even walk in those? Smile. Actually kind of dig the hair.

I didn't think she looked like Rick Astley, as some have said--she actually reminded me of a younger me--maybe just because I wasn't much of a smiler, either.

Ya know, who cares?

It's like "Woman in the Dunes".
The sand of mediocrity is never going to STOP!

Who are these people, this endless calvacade of
style-lacking wanabees, and why should anyone care?

What constitutes "star quality" anymore?
Any horses hine-y can pony up.
No eye, no style, and lots of attitude.

I'm bored of it.

The proportions are odd and the girl looks totally like John Cusak!!! :O Drees is fine, evev though there's some van Gogh going on at upper half, hair is awful and everything else is so MEH. Yawn...

When I first saw this I was like, "Why is she wearing Tevas?"

I think the hem does need raising, and shoes that fit are always a plus.

I also think that a vintage statement necklace or some bold earrings would have worked wonders on this!

And maybe a new hairstylist...

Love the hair and the 'tude, but the dress needs to be shorter and better fitted and the shoes need to be burned in ritual sacrifice to the gods of Fug.

That is all.

I'd love to add lengthy original thoughts, but you pretty much covered it. Dress is great but too long (and lose the bow). Shoes are kinda weird and clearly too big. Hair looks like she's stuck in the same period as her movie--why limit yourself that way?

The minimalist makeup actually works for me, though. And yeah, I think her expression is much more "whoops! awkward camera moment" than "I WILL KILL YOU ALL."

I think it would be fab if the dress was shorter and she had better shoes.

Have to admit that I kind of love the hair, though. :D

The combo of her looking JUST like her boyfriend and those shoes might do me in. Gross.

I think we can all agree: hem the dress and get some kickier shoes. But does anyone else think she should have gotten a pedicure? Without some bright or dark polish on those toes, her feet look even more like a nine-year-old's in mommy's big sandals. And possibly a wee tiny hint of bronzer or self-tanner on the legs? Maybe it's just the lighting, but they aren't looking healthy, while the skin color on her arms and chest is fine.

It's Rick Astley, in drag!

No, I don't care for her hair. The shoes are a crime. Hem up the dress and I can even live with her pout. Joan Rivers gives me reason to live. I saw her live in Reno once and nearly died laughing. She's the best.

I am gonna jump on my pity wagon here and go for fab, mostly because from interviews I have read with her recentley she seems lovely, is very cute and super new to this and nervous.. true the shoes especially are way to big for her and she could of picked a better dress BUT I read a interview in regards to this red carpet yesterday and she was talking about how nervous she was and how she had to get use to be blinded by photographers...CAREY F.T.W.

I'm mildly obsessed with her, so I think she looks cute, by default. Yeah, hack up the hem. Get better shoes. But - I love her hair, her minimalist make-up, and the fact that she's playing it kinda quirky but not trashy. I would so much rather see the 'next big thing' rocking it with edgy hair and badly chosen shoes than see their orange limbs dangling from scraps of fabric.

At first I thought she was a very young-looking Alyson Hannigan (Willow on Buffy).

There's something about this outfit and styling that is so wrong--the hair is strange, the dress is an odd stumpifying length, the lipstick is too pale. She can be quite attractive--I liked the way she looked in An Education, but this is not a good look for her.

I don't mind the hair.
I just hate the shoes.
Simple black heels, babe. Simple black heels.

LIPSTICK!!!! please

She's a cute girl but, the dress is too long. She doesn't look comfortable and with those shoes I don't blame her...

This is like a scroll out fug. Start at the cute dress in the middle then scroll out to the hideous hair and dowdy shoes.

She looks fine from the armpits up. Her hair is fine; her expression is fine, too. She doesn't look dangerous; she looks intelligent.

Hideous from the pits down. Dress is awful. Dowdy knows no age; Betty White would look awful in this. The shoes are unmentionable. They are ugly and can't be saved by any outfit except foot-swallowing pants, which are their own sin.

I love it except for the hateful shoes and the partially mopey face (which may have been caused by having to wear Auntie Carmina's shoes.)

The dress is ok, clearly vintage. too bad the shoes ruin it, cause this whole look could've been cute. but mostly, the only thing i can see, and I dont know if it's my computer, but are her YELLOW ARMPITS. someone, please explain. thank you.

Lipstick and a smile would make this a hundred times better. Cuter shoes that actually fit would make it a million times better. (My vote: black ones from J.Crew with ruffles on the heel.)

OMG it's me at my high school dance. Ambitious but badly fitting dress, badly matched shoes and hair disaster (following classic, "I want my hair to look like this" magazine cut out scenario). She's giving me flashbacks and they're not good.

I was going to say she needs more make-up, but no, I like her hair and face.

She does however need some toenail polish. Those beige toes poking out of the wide straps on those (yes, ill-fitting) shoes look like grandma's.

Also, the dress needs to be a full 6-8 inches shorter.

For the record, I like her stabby expression. Not boring!

And lol, Rick Astley...

I don't know how this could be better, she looks like she's attending a fancy funeral.

She and Shia Lebouf could be tweins...seriously. And no one should be dating their twin. Brother sure, but come on.

She's an actress, she's making a film for Oliver Stone. He decides what style and colour her hair is going to be.

Oh and she's a fabulous actress who can portray all the human emotions with just the flicker at the corner of her nouth ..... that's why the movie world is so excited about her.

She definitely took the last train to Stumpsville in that dress!

She needs to take the hair dowwwn and put on some lipstick (and not to rock the boat, but maybe even some blusher?!) for a start, but mainly the dress is just too big and "much" for her teeny tiny frame. Lose some of the overpowering texture, and the excess inches (of dress), and get her in some loubs - then we might be in business, but really this kind of black is just too old for her. I think she could pull off a little sporty, sexy, Alexander Wang-y LBD, but not this. She'd look great in jewel tones, purple and teal and rust.

The dress is too old for her (and not fitted well either) as is the hair style. My grandmother had a pair of shoes like that. All she needs is an off-white cardigan with some pearl buttons and maybe a plastic rain hat and she's got the whole Mum-mum thing going on.

Hey Carey! Buster Poindexter called. He wants his hair back.

I think she looks like a female version of Shia Labeouf.

she and the dress seem to be co-existing in the same place.

The shoes look like a tragic high-heeled version of what my grandmother wears... and she is 86. I'm digging the rest of the look though.... bigger, sparkly earrings would make it even better.

I like the vintage look of the dress. I'm not so sure about her shoes. But her hairdo is ugly!

I agree with so many people here, but mostly I want to repeat:

LIPSTICK.

It would make a huge difference here.

I think the dress would be good on anyother taller person! I agree with the borrowed-her-mother's-dress-thing as the whole thing makes her look about 4ft tall and for someone who is already pretty short, is a bad look!

If it weren't for the shoes I wouldn't have noticed anything wrong. The dress is cute, and even the length would I think be doable with a pair of heels.

No, my advice is: ditch the shoes and stand up straight.

The shoes are giving me a headache. I want to take them off and throw them. Back into the 90s. Perhaps into the bowels of Steve Madden's "Soon-To-Be-Vintage" closet.

Please put a cute shoe on. One that fits. You make too much money to be wearing these.

YELLOW ARMPITS::calibrate monitor.

thanx.

Lamb dressed as mutton.

She looks so young! Wow. Anyway, Fab but for the shoes...why are they so large?

See, this is a picture that I would send to Kristen Bell as an explanation of what Heather and Jessica mean by someone looking "stumpy", in hopes that seeing it once removed would cause it to finally click for La Bell.

OMG. She was so cute and adorable and looked the right age when she was on Doctor Who. This doesn't even look like the same girl, and it's NOT AN IMPROVEMENT.

The dress would have been fine if she'd left it the length it was when she swiped it off Carol Hannah's mannequin. She just cut it to the wrong length, is all.

Bring back the Scrolldown Fug! Because I was with this - I love the copper Ziggy Stardust bouff, BIG fan of the age-appropriate minimal makeup, I love the bodice, I am accepting of the skirt... and then it goes straight to fug, for all the reasons you guys state, plus THE SHOES.

Carey should:

1) get a tailor- she is a petite-sweet- proportion is important.

2) SMILE!

3) loose the undertaker makeup.

unfortunately you guys picked a super bad picture. look how utterly gorgeous she is here:
