Fug or Fab: Nelly Furtado

Let's talk about Nelly Furtado.

91925254.jpg

First of all, am I the only person who thinks Nelly looks like Courteney Cox? Not exactly, but as though they could be related -- like Nelly is Courteney's cousin, or something. Angle for a gig on Cougar Town, Nelly. I hear it's funny.  Second, this outfit: I feel like it's SO CLOSE to being awesome, and yet something about it has pushed it off the Awesome Highway and into the gutters of Almostville. I fear I must lay the blame at her hose and shoes. They're sort of dragging your eye down, like an anchor. And the last thing you want your legs compared to is an anchor, am I right?

There's also an odd bit of transparency going on here. I like the dress but it makes her shoulders look really big. I don't know how tall she is but I'm guessing she's short and this outfit makes her look very long and lean, though not in an anorexic way.

It's the part in the middle of her head, it's bad, and the pads in the shoulders, they make her look like a linebacker.

The shoes and hose don't work. Also, She needs to be curvier or less curvy for the fit of this dress. Does that make sense? She looks pear-shaped here. Which is my shape. Which is why I'm alert to it, maybe? Also, a slightly lower or bigger or whatever square neck would look fab.

Is it just me or is Gina Gershon missing a leg in that picture two posts before?

I think it's just the hose, actually. Minus hose, I think the shoes could be fine, and I think the dress is cool. Hair and lipstick are a little severe, but I can live with them.

She's so pretty, but that part is so harsh. I just want to soften her hair up a bit.

A nude leg would do wonders with this dress. The shoulders balance out her legs nicely, but then the dark legs cut her in two.

#1 - yes, she does look courtney cox-ish. i would even say sisters over cousins.

#2 - i do think this dress is pretty great.

#3 - it would be much better with bare legs and a less anchory shoe, perhaps strappier or nuder? maybe blake's here:
http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/go_fug_yourself/2009/06/gossip_fugwell_played_blake_li.html

OH AND #4: lose the ridiculous shoulder pads!

I also think the problem is hose and shoes, but mainly I'm writing to say that I totally agree with the Courtney Cox thing. The resemblance is really striking in her latest music video.

I don't even think its close.

yeah, why doesn't she ever part her hair on the side, or leave it loose and wavy. it's always slicked back. maybe if the dress were floor-length and form fitting? no hose, nude shoes? less red lipstick? i like the idea of the dress, but agreed, somewhere it was derailed...

For me it's the severity of the hair and the redness of the lipstick. Love the dress (minus the shoulder pads) and the shoes.

I wanna talk about how Iman is suffering the same effect in the previous post: fie those fugging hose/shoe combos!

I actually really dig this dress and her in it - she's usually really bad at dressing herself. But the pantyhose and the shoes are not good.

I'd lengthen the dress to her knees, giving her a pencil-skirt-from-the-future vibe, and ditch that footwear for something kickier and strappy.

I agree that the hose and shoes are off, but I think that the outfit would be way better with a slightly lower neckline. It would make it less harsh. Oh and maybe if her hair was down and off to the side too.

It looks like she laid down on her belly in some fresh hot asphalt. Not a good texture.

I like the dress but the visual does seem to come to a shrieking halt at the hose and shoes. Bare leg and silver strappy sandals, I'm thinkin'. I'm not terribly fond of the part down the middle and plastered black hair either, reminds me of this:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm456497152/tt0110366

And yes, the resemblance to CC is striking.

Nothing wrong that going up one size LARGER would not cure.

I think it makes her look a lot thicker in the middle than she actually is. Although I will say I'm thankful she isn't sporting that awful orangey-blonde hair anymore. (And I've always thought she looked like Courteney Cox.)

Just give her a total makeover from the chin down. The dress is as hideous as the rest of it.

It's the hose, mostly, I think. Although I agree with the above that the severe hair and listick are totally wonderful either. It's a spangly dress with a rather sever neck-line. Couldn't she have gone a little more poofy and soft-ish with the hair to make it hot/sexy instead of... vague-ly Star Trek-y?

What's with the black nylons? Three pics in a row and they are all wearing black nylons. Please tell me they are not making a comeback!

I'm not feeling it. The design of the dress just looks like a mud splashed tire track...

1. yes, she does look a little cox-y.
2. maybe the outfit would be better if the yellow insole of her shoe weren't peeking out? just sayin'.

Well, no, the part I like best IS the stockings and shoes. Very nice shoes! If the dress were an actual color and not nude, I could live with it, lace details, shoulderettes, and all. (Bottle green? Violet? Orange?) Her makeup is bad, her hair is not only worse but downright dreadful. She looks like Courtney's grandmother, not her sister.

Now I must go help look for Gina's other leg.

cougar town is anti-funny. it makes me hate everything. and i LOVED her on friends.

She has always looked like Courtney Cox. And the hose and shoes are ridiculous with that dress! And said dress doesn't fit. Too small, which makes her look chunky, which she isn't, and the hose/shoes combo add to that effect.

I actually like the hair!

Cute dress but the black pantyhose have to go.

The 'flesh tone' isn't really complimentary to her actual skin tone - if it weren't so form-fitted it might not look like it's was meant to blend in.

Severe part, bright red, garish lips, lack of any real talent and hideous outfit that's too tight. Not sure how anyone could miss the 100% fug here.

I think it's the shoulders. It could work as a strapless dress.

You're right - the hose and shoes totally detract from the dress. Neutral legs and a lighter shoe, structurally, would allow it to stand out on its own. She would be Courteney's FAVORITE cousin - the one that would always get the two of them in trouble during the annual family gatherings at the rented house on Cape Cod. It would involve getting creepy Uncle Ted to buy them beer and chasing boys on their beach cruisers. I wanna come!

The stockings are the biggest problem.

I think it's her face. The dress is great, but the red lip and the pale face conflicts with the soft color of the dress.

Shorten the dress by a few inches, lose the tights (sorry I am British I can't bring myself to say hose) and the shoes. And YES, she does look like Courtney Cox, I am so glad someone finally came out and said it!

It has shoulder pads, which are in themselves ridiculous. Who needs shoulder pads.

If you zoom in on the photo, the black nylons turn into black fishnets. I'm not sure that it makes a difference in the end, because from far away they clearly still look like black nylons, but it might have looked a whole lot better in real life.

I don't like her hair or makeup. She needs a subtle lip color with all that sparkle. And perhaps hair pulled back rather than looking like a tango dancer with that middle part/bun combo. I also don't like the hose-- a nice simple black or nude heel would do the trick. But her body is slamming and that dress is great!

... I actually think this is kind of awful all-around.

Hose, shoulder pads, a WAY too heavy lip.

Did I mention the black hose? 'Cause iiiick.'

Also, the non-pebble fabric is a really sad flavor of khaki, I find.

The hair/makeup/shoulder pads/embellishments make her look like a matador. A late-80s matador on her way to a Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine concert, to be exact. I'd start with going up a size, then add softer hair, softer makeup, a nude leg, and a strappier shoe.

For Nellie Furtado, this is as good as it gets. To me, she always comes across a bit like a tomboy forced to wear Women's clothes. To compensate, she tends to go over the top in some of her wardrobe selection. So the fact that the dress is average, for her works.

I blame the shoulders. I think it would be totally cute if the dress had bare shoulders. She's also looking a little funky with the severe hair and clown makeup.

She absolutely looks like Courtney Cox -- thank you for saying so. I thought I was the only one who thought that.

Yes, the main problem is the hose. A little too much texture for such a visually rich dress. Just plain hose I think, or none.

Personally, I like the shoes, but the strappy metallic (gun metal) option mentioned above would be cool too.

Nixing shoulder pads (not a big fan) and going up a size are options, too, but I'm not in a mood to fight about it.

I actually like the makeup and hair. Yes, it's a severe look, but it can work with the outfit.

LOVE the subtle little bracelet. Quietly there, doing its job.

i think it's the hose, but not because of the hose themselves but because you can see her knees through them.
i actually have the same kind of big, fleshy knees (i call them ziggy because they remind me of that character's face: http://ww1.prweb.com/prfiles/2004/11/08/176572/Ziggy90.jpg)
and i never, EVER, let them out of the house unless i'm wearing opaque tights, a knee-length skirt or pants.
lucky i don't like the beach, right?

I love the dress, and I don't even mind the shoes as long as she loses the hose. But I don't like her hair at all, it looks painfully tight and the center part is awkward.

Lose the hose, the rest is great...tone down the lipstick a little and for the love of God Nelly...smile for once. A real smile, not a sucking lemons smile.

The dress and hair, fantastic. Everything else? Not so much. The problem starts with the make up. The red lip stick seems so over done and inappropriate when paired with the dress. The sheer black tights do her no favors either. Bare legs would have looked killer! Lastly, those hideous shoes. Was the silver piping some way to match whatever was going on with the dress? Dreadful, Dreadful. I love the gun metal suggestion from the previous comments.

It's the hose. Nude and this would be fab.

I had the same thought as I began reading what y'all wrote. She DOES look like Courtney Cox here!! PS I think if she took off the tights it would be perfect.

I think everything about this is just horrible.

I don't think it's so much the hose and shoes as it is the taupe part on her outside edges, so-to-speak. To me it looks sort of shoulder-paddy and like she's wearing a sequined apron.

Dress: the non-sparkly fabric is oddly positioned, which is what is making her look bigger than she is. Shoes: too clunky with this. More open, lower heel would be better. Black stockings: ditch altogether, especially with legs like that. Hair: too tight. Resemblance to Courteney Cox: I actually think she looks like the love child of Courteney Cox and Idina Menzel.

My eye kept going to her head- I think because the shoulder pads make her head look inordinately tiny.

In the previous era of shoulder pads, we all had ginormous hair to offset that effect. Think about the Nagle prints, they had huge angular bobs.

I don't like her hair or makeup. It's way too severe and she has a tendency to go that route which I don't understand. She has hard features that would look so much better with a softer hairstyle and more natural looking makeup.

I'm not fond of the dress either. I think if the pattern/decoration was more organic looking (not so linear) it would have been more interesting (as it is, she looks like she's wearing a really fancy apron). Put that on a darker colored background fabric, maybe a gunmetal blue or pewter with a slight sheen it would looks worlds better. Pair it with nude hose (why she didn't go with nude hose given her penchant for wearing things 'nude') and dark metallic strappy sandals and now we're talking.

Oh and someone needs to tell her that it's okay if she wears something that's not so damn tight once in a while.

Why, why, why are all these ladies wearing nylons/tights with open toed shoes. That is my very biggest personal don't.

Am I the only person who is getting tired of this trend that *everyone* must wear black/near black/incredibly dark nail polish on hands and feet? Every time I look at the nail polish racks I see about a zillion different colors. Why not try one of them?
btw, I think the hose are the problem.

The makeup - especially the lipstick -- adds a good fifteen years. The hairstyle is doing her no favors and the dress would look a lot better without the shoulder pads or the hose.

Other than that, its fine.

The hair is the biggest problem. Seriously, the hair.

Nelly, it's okay to leave it loose every now and then - it's not going to fall out and run away if you don't tie it up, trust me!

I think if she got rid of the hose and maybe switched out that red lipstick for a softer color it wouldn't look so off. And if the collar of the dress was a little lower and she showed more cleavage or maybe wore a push up bra underneath, something to emphasize "the girls" a bit more, I don't think she'd look as bottom heavy. Also, maybe if she had a side part instead of directly in the middle...? But I'm not so sure about that.

And yeah, she does look like she could be related to Courtney Cox.

Make up too harsh, try a softer lipstick and less foundation. a neutral leg, a neutral shoe. The dress legnth seems to make her legs look larger than they are. Neutral legs would fix that. And, a big chunky bracelet is in order.

There are a few things weird about the hair, dress & makeup, but the background is making my brain hurt. Makes it hard to figure out how to fix.

Ohmygod you're right! She looks like Courtney Cox, it's in her face! Totally! As for the dress, total blah.

Love the dress!!

But...do not love the dress when combined with the panty hose and shoes...

The lipstick is just wrong.

today, for me, it's the KNEES.

specifically: it's the hang behind the knee, if i make sense.
[as another posted noted, in another context: this is something which bothers me about me, so maybe thats why i noticed it].

elsewise i would also agree it makes her a bit pearshaped, but probably not so much in person &, probably, i am being picky.

what i really think is:
sans costume, this is EXACTLY what madonna wouldve looked like if she actually wound up playing frida kahlo.....

The background is so hideous and distracting, I can't even judge the look for itself. But she sure does resemble a pinched Cox. I think the shoes are all right, but the hose must go.

It's a great dress, but the hemline pulls taut around her thighs and the detailing makes you notice how normal-looking instead of toothpick-ish they are. A flared hem would help, but that would need the design to do something more with the extra fabric. Or making the dress full length would also work.

The shoes rock but are too stark against the beige of the dress. The hose don't. Re color, I think I'd like the entire thing better if the beading/sequining/whatever were on a dark blue background instead of beige.

Not only the hose and the shoes... also the sparkly part seems to be pointing right (from our view).

As some already mentioned: the hair and lipstick!

So unfortunatly I have to give a thumps down. Good thing we are not in Rome anno 100 or so.

It's the hose and the shoes and the makeup! Kid, put away the trowel. Replace it with some subtly smokey eyes and some damned gloss. Ditch the hose and the shoes, and replace them with some barely there strappy sandals. That is all.

Ditch the hose, ditch the shoes, and ditch whatever it is that is making her shoulders look so bulbous. Add some plain heels in silver or black (no crazy-colored linings!) - maybe mary janes. Wear hair down - maybe in a partial pony with waves...and ditch the blue eyeshadow and red lipstick in favor of some bronze shadow and some pinky brown lipstick.

Yes she does look Courtney Cox-ish (although I think Courtney is the prettier of the two)

Personally I have no problem with the hose or shoes, but I think the problems are definitely sholders and above.

I don't like the little cap sleeves - I think the lines of the dress would be better without them.
Her hairstyle is too servere, her make-up needs work,

But more than anything she really needs to learn how to stand in front of the cameras and just smile, instead of looking like she is making this odd expression like something smells bad.

Its the shoulder pads!

Her hair is just SO AWFUL, it's really hard to concentrate on anything else.

It's definitely the shoulders. Also, I wish she would wear her hair down once in a while. With it pulled back so tightly, her ears stick out.

make the dress strapless, lose the hose, soften the hair. with that, I think shoes would be okay. and yes, Courtney Cox.

Clara got it right (see above). But just because GFY is blocked at work and time arrives later in the West is no reason not to have my turn, right?

So first, move her to a less bizzy backdrop. That one is way too much, which isn't her fault, and yes, lighten up with the hair, already. Loose, tumbled waves, shining clean. And a muted pink/rose tinted lip gloss can chase away that Jungle Red lip spackle. Soft strappy sandals in pale peachy gold. Nude legs, yes. It really couldn't hurt to go up a size with the dress, and how about an antiqued silver bangle? And some fresh floral scent, and a breezy giggle on her face.

For me it's the color(s). The dress is too close to her skin tone and the lipstick is too pink. The hose don't work with the color of the dress, see above.

And yes, a pinched CC.

I'm not a huge fan of the shoulders, but the dress isn't bad. If she got rid of the stockings, I think that would improve this look.

I don't know if this is just an effect of the ultrared lipstick, but her face looks paler than her arms and decollete, which are lighter than her legs. I will only accept a maximum of two (2) skin tones per person per event.

IMHO the black hose and shoes are correct. When a dress is so close to being flesh-colored, the black stockings provide a needed contrast. They separate her legs from the dress; if she wore neutral stockings or bare skin, she'd be one bland color from her forehead to her feet.

I like the dress. The beading is faboo, and it's very flattering to her figure. Really, she's pretty bottomheavy, the skirt covers all the problem areas, and the vertical lines slim her exactly enough!

IMHO the problem is...

[drum roll]

The GODAWFUL CLOWN MAKEUP!!! Black hair, bright-red lipstick, and bright-blue eye shadow don't look good on anyone, and are deadly when combined with a subtly colored dress.

The peek of yellow on the insole of her show is a distracting clash from the colour of the dress, but it's not the problem here: the problem is her hair and make-up which SOMEHOW combines both grim nanny severity AND the overpainted harlot such nanny disapproves of. Dita von Teesesque, in the bad way.

That neckline should also be a good 2-3 inches lower.

Love the dress, but the overly bright lip and severe hair are distracting.

Dress fits badly and boxy at the top - hacks off her head.
Hate her makeup and severe hair.
Legs look like tree stumps - the stockings are not helping here.

Although I dig the brocadey looking fabric.

It's the hair. The hair is very distracting. The look makes it seem she has a helmet on and it is too severe for the dress.

Are you ON CRACK? Everything about this dress is hideous...

I think she looks great, it's the background that kills the look for me.

i think it's the length of the dress - it needs to be pencil skirt length at the knee and that would lend some sophistication and appropriate class/modesty to the dress...she just looks chunkier than she really is with this weird length.

It's way better than her usual garb. Too much make-up and squinting, tho. Different hose would have helped. I think overall, a a real success for her.

If this dress is seen out of the corner of your eye it kind of looks like she has a weird farmer's tan then she smeared coffee grounds or crumbling asphalt all over her body.

sequnce? really?

I actually thought it WAS Courteney Cox. I think the shoulders ruin the whole outfit but the rest its ok.

i'm gonna go with the neckline. would a little cleavage kill you? i mean, it's a pretty conservative look, i feel that, but it's almost school matronly. what, with the hose AND shoulder pads, it's all very retro, but it needs a little OOMPH! and what says "oomph" like boobs? i'm not talking Blake Lively chest cavity baring. something subtle...but hot.

Nelly Furtado has always sort of bugged me because she could look so much better if she wore her hair down or parted it differently as many have alredy suggested. She looks a bit like Courtney, but in the wrong ways that make it less a compliment and more a warning.

I also agree that the make up is too harsh. She's done this before and in more garish ways, but seriously, even though a different outfit might have worked better with the war paint, it would be barely passable.

The outfit isn't actually bad. The hose don't work. She could have worn lighter colored shoes. The dress itself is different and interesting, and she wears it well.

I think the dress might be too long. Or too short. Just the wrong length, in any case.

I actually like the dress and wouldn't change it. What I do not like--what I almost never like about Ms. Furtado--is what she's done with her hair and makeup. It makes her look at least ten years older than she is. Far too severe.

The sleeves need to either be longer or shorter and also less padded. And I feel like the whole dress would be better in another color, maybe a clear blue to bring out her eyes.

Lose the tights and that HORRIBLE slick centre parting and we might have something.

The shoes are great, it's the hose.

I don't mind the shoulders, but the neck isn't quite right. It should either be bigger (in that shape) or a different shape altogether... and she does look like Courtney Cox, perhaps like a younger sister?
I love the studs on the dress, but the fleshy tones ruin it. It would look so much better if it was grey or black. :)

I think the dress would be much better without the excessive detailing in the middle. Leave the two lines down the side, just ditch the ridiculous mess in the centre.
And, of course, bare legs rather than stockings.

It's fabulous, people.

the dress is gorgeous and she looks lovely in it, her face and mak-up is fantastic and polished and perfect.

the downfall is the tights. they're way too sheer.. and they make her legs look, chunky almost.. no tights would be far better, and then her leg colour would match her arms which is a lovely shining tan she's got.
the shoes bring it down as well, a bit too chunky with that platform and the open toe and silver stripe make it looks more chunky. a closed toe and no stripe or platform would be more streamlined.

It's the uber harsh schoolmarm hair and the hooker lipstick. It's too conflicting for the rest of the outfit.

For me, it's not so much the outfit as the expression. I don't know if Nelly Furtado actually IS bitchy, or if she's just one of those unfortunate people whose faces just constantly look dour (see: Larter, Ali, bitchface of), but you never see her looking pleasant.

I think the outfit itself is fine, but there's something off about it in the form of her head.

Not her face-- but that central part with the tight hair, and the camera looking straight on, is doing her no favors. Make the hair more flattering and I think this will look 10 times better.

the makeup looks ghostly and the dress is to tight for her wide hips

Her face is a different color than her arms, which are a different color than her legs.

Nelly is such a wee little thing, that this needs to be shorter by just a tab, and her hair should be loose and maybe different make-up.

Personally, I feel like the problem here is the color of the dress under the studs. I've never been a fan of the naked color. If she wanted to align it more with the accessories here, it should be black, but any sort of jewel tone would have been really pretty as well. (I'm thinking like sapphire blue or a deep red.)

i dig the dress but it needs to be a different color and shorter

Remove the shoulder-puffs - or whatever they are called.

I think its the hoes and the weird shoulders on the dress

The extreme part in her hair, with the dark makeup and the neckline of the dress make me think Oktoberfest. All you need is to fluff out the skirt and she could be slinging beers at The Wiener Haus.

What pretty much everyone else said: different shoes (tan),and either no stockings or nude-colored ones.

I wish she still sang songs like I'm like a bird.

i think the problem is the sleeves ... they make her look unbalanced. If they were straps instead of caps or something, and maybe if the neckline was a little lower/not so square? the dress is cute but the top is just offfff.

also can you please talk about Hilary Swank on Marie Claire this month? she looks .... REALLY REALLY MAD

Firstly, let's be honest, her knees aren't great. The dress should be a LEETLE longer. Secondly, shoulder pads are not EVER great.

She hasn't got the best legs and the hose and shoes aren't doing her any justice..

I think the whole thing is a wash. The dress is a mess. Whoever said she looks like she laid belly down in hot asphalt is spot on. And it makes her look way to "hippy". Bright red lipstick only works if you are WEARING red, which she is not. A severe hairstyle such as this only works on the most beautiful of faces. The shoes and hose might work, if they coordinated with the rest of the outfit, which they do not. I think our little Nelly is hoping for a nod in March Fugness.

You see mom, the other day when we got the driveway re-paved, I may have accidentally stepped on the not-quite-dry result, and then I may have subsequently stepped on the nude hued living room carpet. And remember how Nelly Furtado slept over that night? Well, when she woke up in the morning she was all, "Ay! I haven't got anything to wear to that event later!" And so I was like, "Don't fret Nel! Let's whip out mom's old sewing machine and create an outfit, no a costume/outfit hybrid, and you can be Mariyln Monroe going trick-or-treating as Morticia Adams. You dig?" So anyway Mom, I'm really sorry about the shoe-shaped hole in the driveway. And the carpet. And the result that you see here. Especially that last part.

Before I even scrolled past the picture I was like, is that Monica? So no, you aren't alone.

I think this would be fine without the tights. I really do not like the sheer black we've been seeing.

the hose and shoes definitely don't work with the dress. at. all. and her HAIR! terrible. it's so severe. i don't think the part down the middle, tightly pulled back look works on ANYONE. i'm actually not sure i like her makeup either...not sure which part. but, yeah, something's waaaaaay off.

It's beige. On principle, I don't hold with beige. It's a non-colour.

It's her hair. Her hair is godawful. Sorry, Nelly. Otherwise, she look great!

the length of the dress.. it's not short enough that's why it looks strange.

So fug it doesn't deserve a poll. The hair, the hose, the shoes, the dress, all fug. Leaving what as possible fab? Nothing.

I'm sure it has been said 124 already, but those shoulders aren't doing her any favors, fug!

Love the dress, makeup is great, Nelly herself is fab...and then the whole thing comes crashing down when I see that she's wearing sheer stockings!?!?!?!? Whoever let her out of the house with those on should be fired/dumped immediatly. Whoa Nelly is exactly right, AND NOT in a good way.

It needs opaque tights and it would be perfect.

1. Definite Courtney Cox resemblance.
2. Her whole HEAD is severe (I think that's the real anchor here). Loose hair, softer lipstick and for god's sake, relax your facial muscles! And yeah, ditching the tights wouldn't hurt either. But I love the dress.

Definitely the hose, they're far too heavy for the light colour of the dress.

Shoulder pads, blarrff!!

She definitely looks like Courteney. And my 8-year-old daughter noticed that the hose were all wrong.

I think she looks like courtney cox AND just like whaterface that plays adrian on the new 90210.

Its just the tights...im tellin ya...take em off and she'd look delish!

Oh man I've always thought she looks like Courtney Cox!

Cougar Town is terrible - not funny

I agree that the hose a.k.a. tights are the wrong colour for this dress, but my problem is with the severe hair and the disgustingly red smug lips. I love red lipstick but that red is too much and she should stop smirking - it makes me want to slap her...

The hose and shoes are a problem but they're not nearly as much of a problem as her hair and makeup. Horrible. I feel like my opinion is biased, however, since I have a negative reaction to Nelly Furtado whatever she wears.

It's the makeup, mostly. At least it's distracting the hell out of me. Her face doesn't match the rest of her skin tone, and then the hose just makes it even more mismatched.

The really old fashioned hosiery makes her legs look really chubby.
The hair is too severe, and the edgy makeup clashes with the OAP bottom half.

I really like the dress though, even though she looks like she's shrugging

I am worried about you. Have you been sniffing glue? Everything about this look is beyond hideous.

I love the dress itself -- textured and unusual, flattering, wearable. But, worn with the very severe hair and lipstick, it's too harsh. I would have styled it with a slightly more natural palette on the face (though I would want her to still wear eyeliner and a warm lipstick, so as not to wash her out with the nude colored dress) and I would've gone with a slightly looser, softer hair (though I like the idea of an updo). In general, I like where this was going, I would just go with a somewhat less extreme version. Also, maybe (1) no pantyhose and (2) a nude shoe to elongate her leg.

Ditch the hose, switch the shoes for something either flesh toned or metallic, (but not black-with-a-silver-band, it looks too old), and change the hair! Good Lord, that hair is awful. Something loose and wavy would work way better.

The shoes and hose don't work, but those awful padded shoulder-cap things are not helping things at all, nor is the severity of her hair. So much wrong, so little right. Blergh.

I don't think that Nelly Furtado could ever wear something altogether right. Her taste is terribly questionable. I wish she would just stick to music rather than forcing garish lipstick, shoulder pads and bad sequins on us all the darn time.

I like the dress except for the...are those shoulder pads? Those were a bad idea in the '80s and they haven't improved since. I'm not sure I have a problem with the hose as such, but the shoes are a no.

Nothing is working here. The dress looks like it has been a DIY decoration project, and the middle part reminds me of that creepy, hair-obsessive guy in Charlie's Angels.

She can do so much better.

I don't like the lipstick or the hair.
I think the dress needs less shoulder pad and more sleeve, a v rather than square neck, and maybe just a bit more color. The hose go and the shoes replaced by gunmetal strappy sandals.

I see shoulder pads! why??

change the make-up, change the shoes, change the hair, change the shoulder pads, change the tights.

what's left?

She does resemble Cox.
Hair = too severe.
Outfit + shoes - hose = workable.

Between neck and middle thigh, it's really quite stylish. In other words, the dress is win.

No hose.
