Fug or Fab: Whitney Port

I suspect that, from the neck up, this picture could be secretly introduced into any of our families' photo albums from the late 70s/extremely early 80s, and no one would notice it wasn't an original.

She looks like an incredibly well-groomed extra on Freaks and Geeks, and while my original reaction to this was to snottily wrinkle my nose and mark it for DESTRUCTION, the more I look at it, the more I kind of like it. Possibly because I've now been staring at it for over an hour and I've come to feel some sympathy for my photographic captor. I'm so easily talked into things, I swear. If I ever get kidnapped, I give it four days before I'm making those assholes grilled cheese sandwiches.

I think I'd like it better if she hadn't gotten one side caught in her underpants. Someone do a girl a favor and untuck it for her!

I don't hate it, but I'm not going to be running out to my local Targets to find it either.

I think if she untucked the side, it would look like the flannel nightgown I owned when I was about 7.

I had food poisoning a few days ago, and this dress is upsetting me. Turns out it looks an awful lot like what happens after bad takeout.

Wow, Thelma GOOD CALL. I really did have that nightgown too. And I loved it so much I made my mom let me wear it to kindergarten. And if I couldn't work it then, Whitney can't work it now. Pretty hair though.

I KNOW I would like it better if it didn't look like it was caught in her panties on one side. I think it's really cute other than that.

maybe if she ungathered the side and changed the color?? I think the pink makes it look like a nightgown...

I have to agree with everyone saying it's a nightgown. It would be a perfect nightgown if there wasn't a turtleneck attached and it wasn't gathered to the side. Otherwise this should not be worn anywhere in public.

oh, i think that pretty, pretty color on her atones for the outfit's sins.

Rachel, all we really need here is your comment at the top. It's stuck in her undies!

Am I the only one who thinks Kiki Dunst wore this exact dress in Virgin Suicides... cause really. It's not completely fug but I'm way distracted by that little ruffle on the bottom side. I'd almost like it despite being misplaced from the Virgin Suicides costume department if not for that ruffle....

Honestly, it is probably not good if the first thing I thought when I saw the picture was "OMG, she looks *just* like that American Girl doll from the 1970s."

She is an intriguing mix of meh and do-we-see-her-panties excitement, all complimented with mens watch and shoes that seem to be nice from this angle.

So horrible that I can't even lol.

Marsha Brady looks like she got her groovy dress tucked into her Hanes when she hit the ladies room. This is why we girls go in PAIRS - it avoids this kind of embarrassment. I guess she and Jan are on the outs again.....

It certainly is in flannel nighty territory. A different print or fabric might help this look nicer.

If she untucks the dress-nightie from her panties, swaps out the men's watch for a Timex, and puts on a pair of clogs (or cork wedges with thick white straps), she would fit PERFECTLY into my husband's family album. His cousins looked exactly like that in 1978.

I feel like without her hand by her side, we would all be seeing a lot more butt then we all want to see from Ms. Port.

Whitney looks so much cuter here than she normally does.

No gathering and maybe a belt to make it seem a little more modern, and I think I would love it. I kind of even love it now. But later it would be a L-O-V-E kind of love. A hair change and big earings could also keep it from looking too 70's.

Ohh, and I miss Freaks and Geeks. Favorite show ever.

I admit it: I am biased. Put aside the high-waisted shorts and the times she leaves the house without pants at all; I love the girl.

I think the dress is cute with fun, "classic" details - the choke-me collar, the Mrs. Roper print.

I just wish homegirl would wear some lipstick. Just once.

I actually really dislike the color, or at least dislike it on her. It's way too close to her skin tone. If this were a deeper pink, I might be on board.

I would think it adorable if not for the weird neckline. I get that it's sort of sweet all over except for the amount of leg showing, but it could have a modest sort of scoop-neck and still be sweet and cute but not so nun-ish. Plus, why is she wearing the big watch that messes with the sleeve length, hmm?

*early* 70S [sans ruching, sans mock-turtle] or early-mid 80s [baggier, possibly off shoulder].

i'm sorry, i am a clothing antiquarian. it is my *job* to know.

No.

I think a more appropriate poll choice would be "It looks ok for what whitney USUALLY wears"

Oh dear. Whitney got caught by a photographer as she was running out to get the paper in her nightgown and she thought, "Well, as long as people have already seen this, I may as well go to an event!"

I agree with Poltergasm. Early 70s is what I thought off the bat, especially with that hair. Early 80s would have had MUCH bigger hair.

It's...a shirt, right? I mean, a groovy shirt, I'll give Rainbow Dawn the Love Child here that much, but...it's still a shirt.

I think NOT.

I think the problem might actually be her hair. Not that it's bad unto itself, but when paired with that dress it certainly evokes Marsha Brady. With a cute modern bob (ala Miss Allen above, perhaps) that dress would be more than palatable. Also, shorter (or no) sleeves.

Say, did her dress get wedged into her underwear after a trip to the restroom? It sure looks like it from the side, and wouldn't you know, that's every woman's nightmare.

Too bad she's boring as all hell.

That gathered bit looks like accidental, and not in a good way. The pattern reminds me of a pillow case that one would find in the children's ward at a hospital. I don't like this get up at all, though I suppose it could be worse. She's giving off a total Marcia Brady vibe with the hair, but I don't mind that terribly, but she could have done more with the make up because the color of the dress is washing her out.

It's cute but in the same time it's weird. I love the color, but I wouldn't wear it!
