MAS has shortened the hem and the arm which I think makes a big difference. Shoes are definitely better, but I do think it needs a waist. Just not the blue ribbon Katie picked up at Michaels' craft store.

Okay, the belt looks like it belongs on a hastily wrapped Chirstmas gift, but without the belt, the dress looks like a cross between a mermaid tail and a pillowcase. Definitely better with the belt.

Katherine Heigel. I think that dress is stunning. her shoes are way better, too. The boob issue is just the way she's standing.

That dress definitely needs the belt. It is so shapeless without it and clings unflatteringly to her thighs. Ick.

I think it should go with option A or B.
A. Add another sleeve, shorten the hem, add a wider belt
B. Take away giant puffy sleeve, make it a one shoulder, add wider belt.

Or just stop existing.

Waistlines make a difference.

I think it gives off a fun retro vibe with the shoes in the first one but is better suited to MAS' body. Definitely better with shorter hem and sleeve in second pick but I think a wider belt and not some 5- year-old's hair ribbon would do the trick.

MAS had me at her boobs. Almost lost me at her shoes because Kate's are so fab, but since her shoes are acceptable, the even boobs take the win!

If you have to have the sleeve, then I like the belt, because I think the puffy arm with no belt just makes it look like a formless mess. If you got rid of the sleeve, I could convinced to with the shift. Personally I still would choose the belted version.

BUT K.Heigel's boobs look more lopsided, so version A with better undergarments is my final answer.

I feel like "unnecessary" belts take a lot flack on this site. As a very hour-glassed woman, many a dress has been saved by a decorative belt for me. I appreciate the waist-cinch.

Mlle Heigel wins this one, simply because Mlle Stevenson's thighs seem stifled and extremely uncomfortable - the sequins are doing her no favors.

I love Katherine's belt - it makes the dress far more interesting. Not a big fan of the shoes, but whatever.

I think A belt makes the dress more interesting just not THAT belt. It's a RIBBON for the christmas sakes. Keigl still wins though.

I can't even vote on this because I dislike it on both ladies for different reasons:

Katie: Her lady bags are lopsided because she has a dropped shoulder, which I believe is because of the amount of fabric weighing her down on that one side. The ribbon belt? Yeah, not so much. And those shoes are hideous.

MAS: She needs a belt (not a ribbon), perhaps a wide belt? The bottom part of that dress doesn't fit right on her. It's making her thighs look huge, which I'm certain they are not. And again with the shoes. What's with these women? They have enough money for good shoes, they should use their money on good shoes.

So I vote neither, burn the dress, and start all over.

Miss Stevenson by a mile. Maybe two miles. Miss Heigel's problem is that she has LARGE BOOBS and should never never go out in public without a good bra. I don't know if they make Merry Widows any more; those are what I wore in my youth when I was going to wear a one-shouldered dress. Now I'm sixty-seven and it doesn't matter if my boobs look as if I were trying to steal a couple of one-pound flour sacks by stuffing them down my front. Mis Heigel is, I assume, a young woman; she should never let herself appear before the public eye, let alone the public camera, like that.

You need a choice of NEITHER on this one. The dress is FUG no matter who is in it.

MAS has this one. She is totally rockin it! The fit is much better so I don't think she needs a belt and shortening the hem a wee bit makes all the difference. All around, her accessories, shoes, hair, ect work in her favor.

DJHEYTD, you crack me up. I completely agree on the bra imperative for those endowed with such voluptuousness (something that alas is quite foreign on me). I do love the color on Katherine though. She looks very sunny and cheerful, and it complements her hair. Some readers may disagree, but I also prefer Katherine's shoes. That said, I think the random ribbon-belt looks sloppy and out-of-place. Mary Alice's look is just more pulled-together and elegant overall. I don't think the dress itself is fug -- I actually quite like it!

I THINK my complete and utter distain for Katherine Heigle isn't influencing my decision on this (but I do hate her A LOT, so it probably plays some part of it). But the belt doesn't look right on it, and Katherine looks...lets say "less than well supported" by her undergarmets so this lady I've never heard of looks better

I am just as confused as you about the whole belt/no belt thing, I reckon katherine hiegl would have looked better in her dress if she'd ditched the belt though,... and stolen MAS's shoes - god I love those shoes.
Also how ironic that the show was named 'America's most smartest model' ...maybe we can pretend it was intentional.

It's all down to the boobs, and Katherine's are WAY down.

I'm torn. The problem is that K. Heigl is just too damn good looking. So even with the dress screwed up by that stupid ribbon belt, she still looked better than this MAS person.

A combination of the two would really be best. MAS's bra, lack of belt, and dress length, combined with KH's face and fabulous shoes. That would be a winner.

Katherine needs a boob wrangler and a belt the same color as the shoes, then she gets the win. MAS's thighs look enormous in that dress (although I'm sure they're not). Like her shoes, but not with that dress.

MAS might could have gone up 1 size but I hate the dress itself. It's a besequined watermelon.

KH just looks dumpy... she's got that plus-sized model stance with the hand on hip that says, "yeah, I eat Denny's Grand Slams. What of it?" It makes her look chubby and she's soooo not. Can we chalk it up to a bad photo? Also, her boobs DO look lopsided. I LOVE MAC's heels. Hem that dress up two inches, tear off the sleeve and give it a little more tailoring and we might have something to talk about!

So, I think that Heigel wore the dress better - it fit her better, and the belt made it less like a sack. But I like this other lady's styling more (shoes and hair, and lack of jewelry).

The only thing that would help this dress is a completely different style, a different color, and a different fabric. There! That ought to do it.

It sounds like I had the same reaction as Jessica. When I first saw Mary Alice Stephenson in it I went "Ah! Needs the belt!" but then I scrolled back up to Katherine Heigl and went "hmmm... actually, I think it's much better without the belt."

Well, yes, it's an ugly dress. It has no shape, it's the color of astro-turf, and it has only one sleeve. Being sparkely cannot make up for all that. However, MAS does it better because it's not compressing her boobs and leaving off the belt lets it have some drape.

MAS wins purely on the basis that we can see her knees. The length on Heigl's version is what really edges it into awkward/ugly territory.

I'm with Emmy (10:51 AM) - more belts! Belts with everything! KH for the win for this reason, despite the well-canvassed support issues.

Much better on MAS. Still not awesome, but a lot less offensive. That dress (and hair color! still can't get over it!) looked AWFUL on Heigl. I may not like the girl, but she's very pretty and that hair/outfit was just terribly unflattering.

As for the more recent reincarnation of the glittery sack... Ok this may seem questionable, but stick with me here- cut off the dress mid-thigh instead of at the knee. I think the biggest problem shape-wise is the way it tapers in after that point. It wouldn't be *that* short; plus the lady looks like she has the legs for it, either way.

Still don't know about that sleeve, though...

MAS's shoes look exactly like the pair I picked up for 29.99 at the Payless for my junior prom, so Heigl wins.

I am not a fan of Heigl's but in this contest I have to admit she wins. I think this dress needs the belt (otherwise it looks like a sequin bag with no definition). Also Mary really needed to go up a size in the skirt portion - it is just a tad to tight there.

Heigl wins in the shoes department, but I am going to have to give it to Stephenson ONLY because her boobs don't look lopsided, and akward, and c'mon aren't a ladies best accessory her boobs?

I think Heigl has a case of genu recurvatum which makes her leg posture a bit awkward looking, I suspect she would look better from a different angle. The belt adds nice definition to the dress but maybe not that green. KH for the win.

Stephenson should have work her hair up like Heigl, but I think she pulls the dress off more over all. If you look at Heigl from like the bust down she looks kind of like your over enthusiastic Aunt at a Christmas party...rather dumpy.

I think Katherine's bronze hair goes better with the green (and I like her earrings), but I like it better sans-belt like Mary Alice did it, for sure.

And then there's the whole boobage issue, but I think we've already reached a consensus on that.

I can't decide whose shoes I like better...I think I'm going to go with Katherine's. They complement her hair and makeup, and they're a little more subtle than MAS's. I don't hate MAS's, though.

I can't believe Heigl is winning this. MAS looks better bc: no belt, better length, better shoes. The shoes still aren't GREAT, but KH's make her ankles look huge. As she does not have huge ankles, those are bad bad bad bad shoes, or at least decent shoes with a bad bad bad strap. She looks droopy and stumpy.

My grandma was right about many things in life -- but she was a slip crusader, and that item would help MAS immensely. Yes, I said a SLIP. I know the modern solution is Spanx, but who can wear that squeezy stuff? A slip can make it all smooth and you can still breathe... it's just hard to find one in a store these days.

KH looks better from the neck up, but positively atrocious below. The uneven boobs, the belt, oh my! MAS definitely styled it better. But, really, that dress... just... no.

(And it's not just THAT belt, either. I don't think any belt would work there; the dress has this drapey thing going on, on the sleeve side, that's all bunched up under the belt in the KH pic. I'm pretty sure it would do the same under any belt.)

I can't vote on this. No reflection on those two but that dress is gross. I thought I would like that colour but it just comes off a bit 'Christmas tree' and the shape is not flattering.

MAS looks so much like Beth Ostrosky. MAS looks a tad better because she isn't wearing a belt, but her shoes look like they cost $5. The dress is just so ugly, though!

when we first saw this on KH, I was like "the belt is fine, just burn that sleeve," but now that I see the beltless version, it actually makes the sleeve look less awful--it flows into the rest of the dress rather than just being a sharp asymmetric WTF-piece coming out of nowhere. Still might like the belt better in a strapless version of the dress though (and there SHOULD be a strapless version, because even without the belt, that sleeve is still not good.) Accessories are a wash--I like Heigl's shoes better, but MAS' bracelet is really nice and complements the sequins well.

I think it's the dress, since both women are beautiful. I thought taking the belt away would help, but I'm not so sure about it. It kind of helps prevent the dress from completely swallowing the wearer. I think it's just the kind of dress that bodaciously curvy women should wear. If Kate Hudson or Gwen Stefani wore it, for example, it MIGHT turn out kind of fab. But mostly, I think the dress is doomed to fug anyone who wears it.

Katie looks like Blanche Devereaux's love child. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, I'd give my last two bucks to share a peice of cheese cake with Blanche, but at least Blanche's frocks didn't cling in unflattering ways on every lady curve...don't get me wrong MSA and Katie both have lovely lady curves, but the green sequin dress is not loving them back. Katie's breasts look like my grandmas did growing up....she didn't like to where a bra and they were somewhere in the double E range.(not pretty)It looks like the girls are trying to juggle in there. The way the dress hangs on MSA without a waist makes it look like her legs start about three inches above her knees. I mean, maybe, sometimes, when the lights are low, and one's own personal Intern George is smiling that smile of his and teasing us by (not really, oh my, why Intern George! *blush*) pulling it off us, yes, fine, get with the sashiness. Or if one is wearing a robe while eating bonbons and surfing the web for images of a shirtless [your favorite male film or television star here], a sash is a good idea, if only to pretend one is retaining one's dignity by keeping said robe closed. But most of the time? NO. Hence, no matter what the styling sitch, and no matter how much prettier Miss Heigl is, this Mary A Non-entity Stephenwho wins, THOUGH JUST BARELY, as the dress is old and sad and needs to be given to Salvation Army so some kid can buy it for a dollar, wear it to a Studio-54-themed party, and lose his/her virginity on a pile of coats in the guest bedroom.

The dress needs to make up it's mind - sleeves or no sleeves. And when it does, I'll make up my mind on which pair of boobs are more akimbo - the ones above her waist or that spare pair stashed in her thigh highs.

I'm afraid I hate Katherine Heigl too much to be objective about this. Man she annoys me. And the only good things about this dress are the color and the sparkle.

Mary Alice's is more youthful, less matronly. It's a little above her knee and the shoes are cooler. Also, wearing her her down is a good look. I like the lack of belt as well. Overall, just better.

MAS doesn't look weirdly misshapen...and that's about as good as it gets. It's still pretty fug (but soooooooo close). I think basically what I'm trying to say here is that it would be easier to UNFUG MAS than Heigl.
