At first blush, I kind of liked this.

I still might. It's groovy. The white side panels give it a nice curve. And I think Zoe's boob is sneaking up a little because of the way she's standing, not because the dress fits improperly. Considering she had the daunting task of showing up at the premiere of a movie that's supposed to change the face of movies forever, and can turn other movies into diamonds and makes it rain puppies and angels, she did a good job wearing something that actually doesn't let itself get upstaged by the phenomenon that we're all being promised James Cameron Brings You Tyler Perry's The James Cameron Experience: Avatar: Dances With Jar-Jar Binks is going to be.

But:
My other initial reaction was that she looked like a really exotic sneaker. The close-up bears out that impression. Breathable mesh might wick moisture nicely, but after two wears, she'd better line that thing with Odor Eaters. ... Wait, what am I so worried about? She's never wearing this thing again. That's C-list behavior.

I LOVE IT. Also, I'm already over Avatar.
I like it, too. She is so pretty. Plus, it's festive and I like the shoes. THE SHOES.
I would sell my grandma for those shoes. The one I like even.
I love the dress. I might like it better without the breathing holes, but they don't bother me. It's pretty and shiny and futuristic and completely appropriate for the spectacle. A+.
May I have her shoes now, please?
You know, this isn't the type of outfit that would attract my attention if I just saw it on its own and not on someone. It's weird, but it works. I think it's totally fab and she wears it really well!
Perfect for the occasion. And she's gorgeous.
Of course, if she wore this to the premiere of "Little Women," I would think she was a tacky nut-job. So it's a very subjective thing.
+1000000 points for the new title. Dances with Jar Jar Binks made me spray iced coffee all over my desk and monitor.
Zoe is gorgeous and can therefore do very few clothes wrong.
It's great! Perfect length, interesting without being wiggedy wack, and she is a GEM. Seriously, how can a human look that perfect?
Honestly, her shoes don't fit! One should not be able to see the inside lining of the shoe, and her left heel is at least half an inch away from the back of the shoe. That is the only thing I could find wrong. I like the Dr. Scholl's fabric sides.
RE: Avatar. This movie looks soooooooo terrible. Seriously seriously terrible. I do not understand why everyone's panties are in such a bunch over it. Am I just a fusty old lady? Probably, but still. It does look terrible, no?
As for Zoe, I love this dress and shoes and she looks amazing. I like how the white fabric on the sides gives the illusion that she is only about 8 inches wide. It's a sexy, interesting, and eye-catching dress. Love it.
Wow, I've seen a lot of pictures of this and didn't realize it was... perforated. I still think it's a pretty cool look, though. Not everyone could carry it off, I think.
Re: Avatar -- I would say James Cameron just doesn't get it, but he goes home and rolls around in his piles of money and I do not, so perhaps it is I who does not get it.
The shoes are ten kinds of fabulous. The ring goes great with the outfit. The dress feels a little awkward. I kind of want the gold part to be at the top, like if not for the great fit, I could be convinced that she is wearing this upside down. But she is soooo pretty.
Whoops, that was me.
Sort-of appropriate for the occasion, no? And she's very pretty, has a great figure, and the shoes are great too. I think I like it!
I have seen Avatar, and your title is the most perfect summary of the picture that could ever have been written. Huzzah!
I mean, poor Zoe's character HISSES on numerous occasions ... she's humanlike enough to fall for a humanperson ... but she hisses, wha? Sigh.
Oh, and I do like the dress. It's original and unique. James Cameron would have done well to ask Ms. Saldana for some notes on the script.
Love the dress and the shoes and she looks absolutely stunning in it. Anyone who tells you life is fair, just hold up this picture and they will abandon their argument.
She looks great, and the shoes are divine, but...I don't like the placement of the gold, you know? It looks kind of like she had an accident. Then I think "Oh Lisa you're just being childish." But then the idea is in my head and I can't shake it.
Dress? Rockin'.
Avatar? DO NOT WANT.
Love this and the perforated fabric. It is interesting without being too costumey. The runway version of this dress (as seen on the Project Rungay blog) had chartreuse panels on the sides and back rather than the white. I like both versions equally.
Zoe was very smart to keep all the styling very simple.
I almost wish the whole dress was that interesting horizontal silver, the breathable mesh and kind of random gold placement doesn't do it for me. She could even keep the grommeted white strips where the mesh attaches, ditch the mesh and still have the curvy, 8 inches wide illusion that someone else mentioned.
On the fence about the shoes, it might be my personal abhorrence of anything gold lame. But I get where she was going with them, and she pulls them off fabulously.
it would have looked awful on most women- but she manage to carry it off...
she was also smart enogue to keep the makeup pretty clean, and to not wear to much jewellery
Is it just me or do the meshy sides make the dress look cheap? Like something she picked up at RAVE. I seriously doubt it was a cheap dress. I kinda liked it until the extreme closeup. I need those shoes in my life...for like, walking the dog.
Girlfriend needs to gain some weight.
On a related note, she's gorgeous.
Eva Rodriguez can do no wrong... she looks amazing.
Avatar, ugh -- my boyfriend's gonna make me see it because I forced him into Fantastic Mr. Fox. Did you know that Avatar is 2 hours and 40 minutes long? TWO HOURS AND 40 MINUTES.
As my mother would say "That girl would look pretty with a pot on her head." I think the dress would be "meh" at best on most people, but Zoe's rocking it.
I'm not loving the white panel, but I feel where she was going with it and I think she rocked it. Love the gold and silver and I would sell all your grandmother's for the shoes.
Thank you Lisa- I'm not the only one that finds the switch to gold awkward. otherwise, the dress is perfect- but only for her. shoes are meh, but don't detract from the dress, so good call
Love it. I think it's funky without veering into crazyville and it fits well and makes her skin look amazing (damn her!)
In other news, I am COMPLETELY perplexed by this "Avatar changing the face of movies forever" business. Hasn't CGI blended with live action been around for uh, quite some time??
I wish those side panels would go away. Also, Avatar.
And I agree with the ladies who would give their grandmas to Goodwill in exchange for those shoes.
You know, I think I'd hate this dress on basically everyone else. If, say, Paris Hilton wore it (and you know she would), TACKY! But Zoe Saldana can pull it off. It's interesting and she looks hot. So, bravo!
I've yet to see this woman look bad in anything. She is gorgeous & this outfit is no exception. Also glad to see that she's gained a little weight. She was sickly-model thin not too long ago.
I want her to reprise her center stage role.
And the dress just doesn't work. Too shiny/not enough shininess in all the wrong places.
Girl: Fab
Dress: Fug with that gold detail, all silver would have been way better
Avatar: Rotfl sci-fi new age Pocahontas wannabe story for idiots lacking taste and brains
Her dress is interesting and she has the figure for it. I think I would like it better if the white side panels were either black, gold, silver or even copper.
Shoes are to die for! (And I, in my old tootsies, would die of pain and twisted ankles if I tried to wear those beauties. Ah, to be young and fab again!)
Sweet ring!
Ohh we wantsss the shoes, precioussssss. We wantsss them.
The dress is really cool, though I might like it better if it were just silver .. but then the wondrous shoes wouldn't really match. And then if the shoes were silver too, then I feel as though it might be too matchy. And that would take away from the shoes and we would not want that.
dress is good without the white panel.
she should really learn how to pose though.
I adore me some Zoe. AND I was originally on the "what's up with the two tone metallic business?" team. But without the two tone stuff, the shoes and rings wouldn't make sense. And overall, it's pretty smashing, whether it looks like she got it at RAVE or not.
Avatar? Whatever!
It became a scrolldown fug for me - great until I reached the gold. Ugh. And the closeup of the little black dots...unless she's going to roll into the theater and needs the traction, just a plain white material with the silver would have been lovely.
I'm sure I will say about Avatar what everyone said about Titanic: "[insert exorbitant budget amount here] and Cameron couldn't buy a good plot?"
oh, that's not black dots. it's holes. ewwwww - worse.
My brain told me to LOVE THIS but I just think it would click so much better if it weren't for the little holes on the sides. Also, meh to the shoes. I don't hate them and they do work with the dress, I'm just not in love.
Overall, though, I do like the dress. The little spikes along the edges of the white really cinch it for me. I just wish we could lose the little holes! Then I would hit that dress so hard.
Avatar was amazing. I reallly, really didn't want to go but my boyfriend dragged me to it. I ended up loving it. It takes you to a totally different world. And the animation was so beautiful. And it reallly was quite similar to pocahontas in many aspects. I recommend it to everyone. Unless you hate beautiful love stories. I'm not sure how liking this movie means i lack a brain though?
I love. This Saldana person is loveliness, and the dress is great. The perforations are righteous. Yes to the sporty/Vegas mix here.
And o I will be seeing Avatar, indeed I will; but not in 3-D, which I think gives me permanent eye floater damage, in addition to the nausea and all-day headache.
For me, those white panels spoil it a bit. If they didn't have breathing holes and were a different colour - maybe silver or red or black - I'd be fully on board with this dress. Would I accept if she offered to give it to me as it is though? Oh yes I would!
I'm not sure about Avatar. I want to see the 3D awesomeness, but I'm worried that underneath the 3D awesomeness is a fairly average movie with a distinct lack of plot. And a cheesey love story. I don't like cheese with my movies.
Zoe looks great!
And Avatar was spectacular. The CGI was absolutely amazing, and the plot was really quite good. You truly don't even notice how long it is. I was expecting to hate it, but I really liked it.

This girl is smokin' hot. She can wear a smart apron of banana leaves and look like a million bucks. Cover her with this shiny stuff and she looks like ten million! Loved the movie, the girl, love the dress. And done.
The gold panel makes me think of wee, like this is some kind of abstracted meditation on enuresis. I thought everyone else would be saying this too, but it's just me, and now I'm worried.
Also I hate the white mesh.
You must see Avatar in 3D...
Zoe's voice portrays sooo much emotion. It's beautiful and although the story isn't particularly original, it is still a good story.
As for the dress, she pulls it off. I think, though, she could pull off almost anything. Look at her!!
I don't like that dress one bit, it looks bad, but the only reason it seems ok is because that chick is beautiful.
