Mena Suvari is TOTALLY going to land that Diane Sawyer biopic! And while it's a testament to Diane Sawyer's magical, powerful genetics that, at 60-something, she looks amazing and barely 40, it is NOT a testament to Mena Suvari's stylist that, at 20-something, she looks like she just fell out of an ad for Chicos' new line of evening trenches.

When I saw this portrait of Mena Suvari at Sundance, I naturally assumed she was in costume as her character in Mysteries of Pittsburgh AKA -- if you listen to that charming master of PR Sienna Miller -- Mysteries of Shitsburgh. (Don't email me, Pittsburgers -- I have not been to your fair burgh, but I would NEVER speak ill of the home of the Steelers, especially as it is also the city where ketchup was invented. Take it up with S. Mil, and tell her I sent you):

American Fuggy

Mena Suvari is confusing me.

First, she showed up around Bryant Park in this ensemble, which is essentially Catholic Schoolgirl as bastardized by several of today's cloying trends (leggings, tights, imagined air of brooding mystery). As you might imagine, this photo is an especial anathema to our sensibilities because it tries to fuse the dreaded formal shorts craze with The Spandex Scourge.

Then, she shrugged off living in The Now -- the terribly, terribly trendy Now -- and arrived at the Stuff Style awards in a variety of cloying trends from a year or two ago.
